That's not the point though, point is that while the roster is great, the amount of random old dudes and their family members is just too much. Not because of my own fandom, but the likes of Baraka, Fujin, Havik, Kai, any of the cyborgs, Smoke, Kabal / Mavado offer way more than some of those. It's just too much blandness for me. I would be cool with Jacqui without Sonya / Cassie and with Jax if Johnny / Takeda would be out.
That IS the point.
Let's not forget that MKX is supposed to be a
"passing of the torch" game, and while I don't care either way about Johnny, Sonya and Jax being in, I can surely see WHY.
I don't agree with Jax being in, just for the sake of Jaqui (which is what it seems like), but if it means that Jaqui will take his place from here on out, for 1 or 2 games, then I'm all for it.
The same goes for Johnny, Sonya and Kung Lao.
Ever since E3 2014, Ed Boon said that MKX would have descendants and relatives, and that he liked the interaction between the old characters and their relatives, so I really don't see where all the hate is coming from.
Yet, countless times on the Internet (not only here in TRMK), it's the same tired and repeated
"Waaaaaaaah ___________ family character is taking a roster slot from _____________ character that I'd prefer to have in."
NO.
Whatever character it is which YOU want in
isn't having their roster slot "taken up" by ___________ character.
That's false.
Chances are that NRS said something like
"Baraka, Kabal, Havik, Kai, Smoke, Sindel, Jade, Cyrax, Sektor and Nightwolf won't fit into what we're trying to do, and these are the characters that are planned for MKX."
This idea of relatives being in MKX has been around since E3, and Boon never said that Sonya and Johnny were the only ones to have kids.
That's just something that people merely assumed.
