Black hole news

Did anyone hear about lab people that are going to create the Big Bang Theory. Its going to happen by Christmas. what would happen is that they will have 2 atoms crash into each other maybe creating a black hole.

I thought they did this already. And nothing will happen.

And if it did, get your crowbars ready.

They did the initial test, of a single particle, and was announced as a success. The second test is in roughly 2 weeks time and that'll be the real atom smashing, with 2 particles. But, they say it is an abosolutely astoundingly minimal possiblity that any damage will even come to the testing facilities. Pretty safe in my book, fantastic to look at the possible applications of the results in 20-30 years time. Do not fret folks, a 16 year old girl already killed herself over the last test, that's one person too many.

the machine is called the large hadron collider. i've been following the progress of this experiment for about a year. it really poses no threat to mankind, the black holes are a by product from the energies being released when atoms are smashed. they evaporate in a trillionth of a second and they are smaller than a proton. even though they haven't smashed atoms at the lhc's top speed (99.999% the speed of light) it is still safe to bet that we'll all be here for years to come. there is another similar experiment that has existed for quite some time now, it's called the z-machine.

I heard that the first particles will hit on the 21st of October. Then, apparently, it will take four years before the world ends, when we will see a beam of light come out of one end of the earth, and at the polar opposite dust and rocks will move independantly. Then the world will allegedly implode.
Bollocks, I say. But ironically, 2012 is where the Mayan calendar ended...

I don't care. Death is coming, might as well make it come in a kickass planet-wide explosion. But I will have to work on my bucket list before 2012...

I'm too young to die! I'm still a virgin! ARGHHHHHHH!!

Also, didn't they say this for 2000? Nothing happened eh? Except for us Aussies hosting the Olympics. Woot. Such great memories.

yeah yeah, well for anyone who hasn't seen it :)

Well, part of it is "putting yourself in their shoes" so to speak. I know with a lot of mute characters I try to make my own speech. Other times it's an artistic choice, or just mocking that a lot of game characters are mute. Like Link in Zelda, he's not technically mute since characters react to him "saying" things, we just can't hear them being said. That's where we're supposed to fill in the blanks.

Don't believe that "end of the world 2012 or 2020 or whatever" bs. Some people will spread shit to scare people...like we don't live in enough fear right? ha.. The world will still be here, if anything the chances of nuking ourselves out of existence I'd say is higher lol.

This doens't concern me honestly, I remember few years ago when it was confirmed that an asteroid was heading our way(and still is) then scientists found out the chances of it hitting earth are very, very unlikely. I remember when it was first announced, some people freaked out lol

I don't see why. I don't so much fear death as much as I just wish I could experience some more things before dying. Doesn't really matter to me if EVERYBODY including myself die. That just means there are no more games/movies/etc. for me to experience. So I'm not missing anything am I? (OK I know that's not all to life, don't go there)

Yeah, I try not to think about that. I always wonder what and hopefully if/what the afterlife will be. Guess it's all about what you believe in religiously. But that's another topic.

There's a few things I want to get out of the way soon, nothing extreme though.

Part of me thinks this experiment is the kind you do when you've got to the stage of being able to build it halfway across the universe. That way even if it gones wrong you've got a long time to think about how to correct it.

I don't know the fuss, the other day they announced the thing destroyed itself... Or part of itself and it will be months before they get it working again. Personnelly I don't like it when man tries experiments like this. We've proven time and time again we make mistakes, lets just not create more.

People worry too much about things. Just live for the moment and whatever happens, happens.

Spring began last weekend. Either way, we're not likely to see anything for another decade if their logic is right. Personnelly the money wasted on this singl experiment could have been used on more useful research. Like... Saving and inproving lives. This is a multi BILLION pound project after all.
