The plasma shotgun can also be charged to do extra damage at the expense of using two shots from your thermal clip. And it has extremely long range, but gets weaker the longer the shot has to travel. I haven't used the mattock rifle yet though. Haven't used an assault rifle.
More ammo, more power, more accuracy. The Phalanx was really awesome. The geth plasma shotgun was also more awesome than the claymore.

I liked being the bringer of Mach 7 doom using Charge and a geth plasma shotgun.
First Vanguard, then Adept, for my third playthrough I'm going as an Engineer. Tali, Legion, and I can swarm our foes with explosive combat drones.
Oh, I was just including the ME2 squaddies. Wrex is near the top for me as well, probably after Legion.

That's pretty much how it works in an order of epicness involving every squaddie. Mind you I thought everyone except Miranda and Jacob were awesome.
