Timeline Speculation

What stories would you like to see ended/completed/finished since the new generation of fighters is inevitable?

I've been saying this for a while, but I would love to see the Scorpion and Sub-Zero rivalry to finally be put to rest, with Scorpion and Sub-Zero's stories being open to further expansion in future games, after MK X.
The Sub-Zero and Scorpion "revenge" bullshit story has been going on since MK1, and I'd really love to see something new for those 2, in MK X.
Maybe they can finally join forces and kill their common enemy, Quan Chi, once and for all.

They've put it to rest twice, and neither time was permanent. I have no reason to believe it's gonna stick if they do it a third time.

I do.
Now that Ed Boon is taking MK in a new direction with a new story and not rehashing the same old stuff, MK X is the perfect opportunity for NRS to do so, and expand on those 2.

The Dragon King's storyline; everything leading upto it including Shujinko's quest. So far nothing shown in MK9 prevents it from happening. The best story arc of the MK franchise so far definitely needs some revisiting and completion.

THEY NEED TO MAKE SCORPION AND SUB-ZERO TEAM UP ON QUAN CHI FOR F@CK SAKES, AND THEN BECOME A FORCE FOR GOOD, THEY TEASED IT TOO HARD IN SUBBY'S ENDING!!!

Rant over, seriously though how cool would that be in Story Mode? And I agree with Araknyd, this whole revival of the rivalry shit is getting old.

What we have to understand is that it wasn't really until MK: Deadly Alliance that there was some sort of story being told outside of bios. Before that the game was just a simple fighting game. No story modes or anything.

So they just needed to make sure two characters hated each other. Now with the way they're all about a story presentation they will move on.

Actually, the second time was permanent, and the reason it was brought back up in MK9 was due to it being relevant during that era, and before Scorpion knowing the true circumstances.

If the second time was permanent, then explain both the Armageddon intro, and a Kori Blade through Scorpion's body in the MK9 story mode intro.

Fanservice.

-EDIT-

For an in-universe explanation, they were both on opposing sides during Armageddon, forces of light and forces of dark.

I would rather have all of Quan Chi's mind slaves to stay dead since reviving only a few and leaving the rest dead is asking to release a very bothersome can of worms within the fanbase.

Altered Timeline, different rules. Them staying dead is good for the story as it allows other characters to shine. That and if you revive one than fans will want all revived.

Im still assuming some of the dead characters will get Noob Saibot'd.

Then they'd be both new and returning characters. I dont know, seems like something that could happen though.

If Cyrax's ending is canon, then he isn't with the Special Forces. He's hanging out at the Wu-Shi academy. Which means he was never sent on a mission to Outworld. Which means Reptile never attacked him, Nitara never offered to help him, Cyrax never got Nitara her orb from the Lava Shrine and Reptile didn't follow them and end up getting possessed by the egg.

Of course they could change some of these details. Maybe make it so that Reptile had a completely different reason for going into the Shrine. But honestly, I don't see Onaga coming back. Boon said the big bad was going to be a surprise returning character. So I'm guessing God Liu Kang.

One way they I could see them get around that is to have Hotaru, the Dragon King's most loyal supporter because of the order he brought to the realms, to be somehow aware of the Prophecy and trick Reptile to serve as the Dragon King's vessel.
While I wouldn't count on Onaga returning in MKX, I do think the door's open for his return somewhere down the line.

I highly doubt any Arcade Ending is canon so they shouldn't be used as a base for trying to figure out what may and may not be possible for MKX. Besides, Onaga is a Master of Manipulation. He can always find different ways to lead to his revival. Besides Raiden seems to have forgotten about Onaga completely by MK9's end as he has other things to worry about. His visions also didn't explain the steps to stop Onaga's return as Dark Raiden's visions were more along the line of stopping Shao Khan.

Besides, Nitara could skip Cyrax completely and end up working with Reptile, with false promises that getting what she wants will get him his race back, and than that leading to Onaga's return.
