Is Ed Boon sure he's doing the right thing?

Yeah, I know that and I agree, but at least back then it wasn't so apparent - partially because there was no internet to connect the dots.

All I'm trying to say is... Out of all the things they can create, out of all the realms MK has to offer, why do they have to choose characters that resemble someone else from another franchise? Why not something completely different? Sure, Kotal Kahn is not an exact copy of Ogre, Ferra/Torr isn't an exact copy of Bane and Juggernaut, Cassie isn't an exact copy of Jill Valentine and D'Vorah isn't an exact copy of one DC chick I can't remember, but they all look very similar. So much that people have noticed.

To me it seems like the team is either lazy or WarnerBros is pulling strings and telling them what to do. These 4, with the exception of Cassie due to story, don't fit in as much as they could. Precisely because I have already seen them somewhere else and don't see a reason to play with clones.

Hopefully the other 10 will prove me wrong. I want this game to be great as everyone else.

It doesn't even matter. The game has Sub and Scorp. It's all they need.
Do you guys even think the casual fans would know that Dairou, Havik, Tanya and Fujin aren't new characters?

Raiden's a primary hero. His presence is necessary because of that.

Liu Kang's still the legal champion of MK. He has to return one way or another.

We need to revive the tradition of new ninjas. What colors of male, female, and cyborg haven't been used yet?

Have you seen them in MK though?
Then they are not clones. Kotal is nothing like Ogre. Ogre has no special fire attacks or giant sacrificial swords. All they have in common is green skin and an Aztec theme.

Your complaint about Torr is that he looks like Bane? That's pretty weak dude. Considering that Injustice was the first NRS game that featured characters with unique body sizes. And now they're bringing that to Mortal Kombat for the first time, eliminating the complaint a lot of people had for MK9 of characters all looking the same. Liu Kang should not be the same size as Jax. So Torr is probably the most unique out of all of the new characters, but he's a clone because he's the same size as a character in a different game. Yeah, sure.

MK built itself on foreign character influences. Bruce Lee, Big Trouble in Little China, Predator, BloodSport etc.

I like where you're going with this, but I don't think we'll come up with anything.

Blue... Sub-Zero/Frost
Yellow... Scorpion
Red... Ermac
Green... Reptile
Purple... Rain
Black... Noob
Grey... Smoke
Brown... Tremor
Transparent... Chameleon/Khameleon

What's left?

Orange? Pink? White?

That would look weird.

A white ninja I can imagine, but still... I dunno.

It's not just about the size being the same. It's about the vibe he's giving me. I see Torr, I see Juggernaut and Bane. Just too similar. At least give Torr a more unique constume.

And if you think my analogy is lame, explain to me this...

If they're bringing it for the first time to MK, albeit I disagree about that fact, why Ferra/Torr and not Goro/Kintaro/Motaro first? Is Ferra/Torr supposed to be a substitute for them? Because that's how I see them.

At this point, adding new ninjas to MK that aren't actually good and unique characters would be like SF adding more shoto fighters, or Tekken adding more Mishima or Kazama bloodliners with the same haircut, or KOF adding more flame wielders....uninspired drivel to cater to the lowest common denominator that will only prove the franchise is dead and stuck in the early 90's.

Surely Mr. Boon didn't run out of ninja ideas all of a sudden...male or female.

Haha, that was funny. Dunno, anything's possible bro.

The only new ninja character I can come up with from the top of my head is a female ninja dressed in white. Yeah, I'm going to work on that. Thanks for planting a seed.

Tekken's story revolves entirely around the Mishima Zaibatsu (which has operated each and every tournament so far), which, as the name implies has always been in the hands of the Mishima family. Mishimas are practically mandatory for Tekken because of that.

Sure, but does that mean we need more, and if we do, do we need clones? This isn't the 90's, there is absolutely no reason for more than one version of a character to exist in game, each and every slot should represent a unique and completely different move set...if Tekken introduced a new character sharing the moves of previous ones, the previous ones should be eliminated just because of gameplay reasons, the same goes for every franchise. No matter which way you go...gameplay > story, story > gameplay, both call for progression, otherwise it's the same game over and over, and who would willingly pay for the same product twice?

I think it'll all be fine. I was skeptical initially about the direction they were going with the new characters, new story, etc. But Ed and Co. clarified everything, along with the various interviews conducted at E3.

I think Kotal Kahn, Cassie Cage (even if she does resemble Jill), and D'Vorah all fit. I think D'Vorah would have fit better if they just left that damn hood off of her. That's why people are saying she resembles Raven. Otherwise, she fits IMO.

I'm STILL not sold on Ferra/Torr though. Probably because Ferra's voice drives me nuts, but also they just don't have "IT" to me. Idk what it is, but I will admit they feel slightly out of place here, and it felt weird having Sub-Zero/Scorpion interact with them.

I hope they grow on me. Right now, they're a sore thumb though. Kotal, Cassie, and D'Vorah all are fine IMO.

This is where I stand too.

I am with you there. Ferra/Torr are the ones I'm still not sold. I actually don't think Torr reminds of other franchises at all, my problem is mainly their futuristics designs and clothing that somehow don't fit with the rest. But adds diversity and I want to see their alternate (even thought MK9 had very shitty alternate costume for 90% of the characters).

A classic character I would like to see is actually Khameleon. Her story was actually pretty good and would somehow fit with D'Vorah vibe and I find it a shame she never actually made an oficial appearance in any primary MK game (just Nintendo version of Trilogy and the Wii version of Armaggeddon). But oh well...

The characters MK3 brought with it weren't much better than Kotal Kahn and Co.

I haven't seen any pallete swaps. Or a stereotype of an American plainsman.

I don't want to play MK4 HD, figuratively speaking. It's good to see they're going with something new and fresh. They showed off 4 brand new characters, all of which were better than 99% of the MKDA-MKA newbies. NRS isn't being rushed like they were with the 3D MK games. So they have time to flex their creativity.

If the cast isn't recognizable, who cares? They have the stars in the game and that's all that matters. Nobody says "If Kabal and Stryker aren't in MK then I'm not buying it!" They have Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Boon already hinted at Raiden, so they already have the 'faces of Mortal Kombat'. Every character after them is just icing on the cake.

this !
