PC version of Mortal Kombat 9...

Why NRS does this to pc gamers? i mean it's not the first release of the game so what's the problem if they announce pc port like PSVita?

Because they are lameass idiots, basically. If they weren't responsible for the creation of such a kickass game, they should have been lynched ages ago.

It's not NRS, it's WB. I think the thing really comes down to when they want to release the game. Maybe some people there think they'll sell more copies in September and don't want to risk a Summer release, it is also plausible that MK Legacy Season 2 was pushed back and they want to advertise the game in the series.

Anyway I'm playing the only MK game I've never played before (except MK9 of course sadly): Shaolin Monks. This game actually kicks some serious ass, I'm enjoying it very much, definitely the best MK game of last generation even though it's not a fighting game but action adventure. :D

Love Shaolin Monks, gives me that MK II feel that MK 9 didn't give me enough of.

Yes, I love how the levels are based on the original arenas. What strikes me as a surprise is the high quality of this game: I've always thought about Shaolin Monks as "meh, it's a Konquest mode only game" because of the slightly low ratings but this is actually very good action adventure. It has everything you want from that genre: it's challenging and it's full of great combat, platforming and puzzles.

Yeah and the fatalities are quite good, it's also nice to see Shang Tsung in his MK II attire which has always been my favorite version. The sound his skulls made in MK II still hasn't been matched.

Yeah, it's just much more authentic than all the other PS2 MK games. Combat is also fater which is nice. One thing I absolutely despise though: the fatalities in bossfights. Right now I'm at the Reptile bossfight and I can't beat him because I fail to put in the fatality combination (oh my God the 360 D-Pads suck ass): it's just dreadful that not only the boss fatality is a combination you see for the first time at the end of a bossfight but it just also disappaers from the screen after a few second. Oh and if you fail it the boss get a serious amount of his health back. Painful and dumb mechanic.

Anyway my PS2 died on me a while back so nowadays I play all the PS2 MK titles on PC by using the PCSX2 emulator and performance great in all of them. I don't have a super powerful machine yet I can play these games in 1080p with 16x antialiasing applied on a rock solid 60 fps. I just wrote this down for PC gamers to know that nowadays you can play these games on PC, PCSX2 runs them great with only very minor graphical glitches here and there.

Hm, nice to hear that PCSX2 has progressed that much. Gonna try it out tonight.

Good luck! A little advice:

- If I remember correctly Shaolin Monks requires an update, without that a lot of textures are missing. These are not part of the installer package and can be accessed here:
http://pcsx2.net/download/development/svn.html

- Use the DirectX 11 support: huge performance boost!

- I found it so that the GPU drivers highly correlate with the stability of the emulator so if you have crashes chances are PCSX2 doesn't really like your drivers. When I first experimented with PCSX2 last year I had frequent crashes, then I updated to newer drivers when they came out and PCSX2 never crashed since.

- A lot of useful info can be found on the official site

- Widescreen hacks if you need them:
http://ps2wide.net/m.html

Anyway they did a wonderful job on the MK games, I can imagine it was a priority to get these games running.

All I can suggest at this point is to join in chat in
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/WBChicago --

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/NetherrealmStudios --

http://steamcommunity.com/gid/103582791429599970

groups to show the devs how many people are waiting for it, i would be really amazed ot see at least 50 people, who knows maybe they will notice and one of the devs will join chat aswell.

Any help is appreciated

It's weekend now so no chance of getting anything out of them today. WB will announce it when they want to, we can't really force them to do it. The MKAK Steam forum is full of MK9 so they know people are excited.

Okay, the SteamDB page was not updated in the last 8 days so I think it's time to ask a legitimite question: WHAT'S UP over there, WB? You got bored of developing a PC port? If this project fails to finish I swear to God I won't buy a WB game ever again (that may be one customer only, but I do have two Collector's Editions from the last two Batman games on PC) and slap Ed Boon for making false teases. :)

Anyway a small story comes to my mind when think about my CE of Arkham City about how "good" WB support was 2 years ago. I had a problem with one of my unlock codes so I contacted their international support (not the US one as I live in Europe) only to receive a mail which stated that they can't help me because there are no Collector's Editions of Arkham City on PC. There I was, looking at my non-existent PC CE of Arkham City and took some pictures, sent them to WB and the next email was about how sorry they are because they really only were aware of the fact that there are no PC CEs of Arkham City in the US and had no idea that they'd acutally released these editions in Europe. :D And that assumption came from their European support. :D

So considering that anything can happen over there at WB I have a feeling that MK9 PC is done and they are just sitting on it waiting for the release. If they do this till September I'll be a bit frustrated.

WB logic:
"Hey yo, Bill! What should we do after waiting 2 years to port MK9 to PC?"
"Well development is basically complete so we wait some more."

:D

I'm hoping we'll still get it in June. I mean if that steamworks graph chart is truly for Mortal Kombat then that should be all the definitive proof that it is on PC and will be coming otherwise how would people be playing it.

Well, just because they haven't updated the page within the last x amount of days doesn't mean they are bored or have given up on it. It may simply mean there isn't anything new information lately or the test phase is over. They may be doing other not visible to the general public work. Sometimes games, especially from them get held up due to business rather than technical matters. This especially happens with ports.

The arkham city port for Mac got delayed a few times due to Warner Bros. approval process for example.

All that hinges on whether or not this whole thing is true which as far as I'm concerned there's still at least some doubt in my mind whether or not MK9 really is coming to the PC. I'm trying not to get too excited here.

Well I'm confident the game is coming, the part of my post where I said they are bored was just ironic. The lack of official information is what's really stupid here, I can't believe the guys over at WB are this stiff: we found out the PC port is in development, every gaming site has reported about the game popping up on Steam yet they are still silent. If it's coming in September I'm okay with that but an announcement is really a nobrainer at this point. I'd like some details, it's been more than a month since we know about the game.

I agree, I fail to see the harm in them confirming that they're working on a PC port. Such secrecy is lost on me unless they're just not that serious about releasing which is incredibly dumb.

THAT's what ultimately bothers me the most - their complete secrecy on this one, as if they've sworn an oath or something.

Until they break the silence and actually say SOMETHING about a PC port being cooked, it might as well turn out that there is nothing serious going on at all and those Steam events were nothing more than a very early probe testing thingy with no relevance whatsoever.

Ster Kinekor claimed otherwise indeed, but even they are not WB, and they can only know as much as NRS/WB allows them to.
