Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

The fighting stance animation looks a little strange. Liu's legs look really small/short and his crotch area is really long. Also it seems his head is bobbing around a lot like he's dancing.

Liu Kang himself looks alright but the animation looks different from the statue.

Just pointing some things out.

About the Liu Kang statue.. it looks like he needs more lighting\shading to his pecs to make them have as much volume as in the original statue. So does his crotch area.. in general not just in the statue but the regular model it inherits its shape from.. it seems that area doesn't have enough cloth folds\wrinkles\dimension to it it's too flat. That may be a reason why it looks really long. There's not much going on there but flatness.

hey there MrMos3s, thanks for your comments, to tell you the truth man it's kind of hard to chage liu kang's proportions cause that means going back to zbrush and believe me, IT'S A HELL OF A JOB to do everything again, export textures, rigging, skinning and starting animation from scratch... but I won't lie to you, this model matches ho sung pak proportions, you can you back a few pages in this forum and you'll find when I posted both pictures, the model and the real one so everyone realices about the proportions.

but either ways I would love to listen to your ideas

about the moonlight, all the characters have an strong lighting coming from behind but since scorpion, sub-cero, and reptile don't have it I won't use it on liu either... but for the statues it would be really nice to see that strong light coming from the moon like in this picture

After seeing the displacement map and normal map applied it seems to have helped the proportions quite a bit, I don't think it will be a problem now, I should have been more patient ;)

And as far as moonlighting I was asking Cal but I realize now that I didn't make that very clear in my post.

Lui Kang Statue!

LUI_KANG_STATUE.png

hey cal, sorry for all the things you're passing through with this statue, but he still doesn't have displacemente map loaded, that's just the normal I guess..

Hmm wierd it the displacement map is definately on. Can you post a picture without any textures and the color gray on him so I can see what is wrong?

I think Liu's models is totally all right, I totally like it and I also like the stand animation wip. Obviously it needs more work, but the model is, like Arq said: accurate to the actor.

I think this statue needs more work, but not the 3D model, let's say, like endings in characters, probably MrMos3s could help getting it closer to the original prop.

Arq: You should be careful with the hair during animations. Try to keep the head without much movement so it wont look weird. Congratulations for a very good job on Liu's animation. It's a great start, I wonder if there is anything you could do to make his pants more natural, I don't know much about 3D modeling, but the union between the genital area and the legs is pretty obvious, could it be fixed?

thanks carz, glad you liked it, I think is not loading displacement map and if it's loading it cal should try to increase the value... maybe the statue needs a little more work on the lighting.

I'll take into consideration what you said about the head.. and about the pants, I tryed to apply the cloth modifier but believe me... It's a pain in ...... you know where LOL, I'll try to do something with the pants to fix the genital area...

this animation needs a Lot of work cause I did it in my launch hour and I just spent like half an hour doing this.. I just needed to see him moving. LOL

Cal, check this out, I did it in photoshop so you can have an idea of what I mean.... you can see the veins and things like that
also it would be nice if he had eyebrows

For the statue, the hair cut should be different, also I like his left foot in Arq's example, it have more details. Arq... could you give it a try at getting Liu's select screen picture? I mean the gesture and all? :D I wanna see it...!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

And the fireball animation...!!! :P

Arq, don't photoshop it. I need a render with just a gray material applied so I can see all the details in your displacement map as you have it applied. Don't add cracks or anything. I just need a pure render when you get the chance.

I think the camera is to "up", that's why the head looks big and the foot looks small. Also left hand look too small and arms are not in the right position.

Here with small edit with photoshop
65910696.gif

The camera angle actually might explain why his legs in the animation look so short. Perhaps an idea would be if Bleed took the Liu Kang model and animated/adjusted it. It would probably give Liu Kang the same look/feel as the ninja models.

That way other people could still build some of the other characters so Bleed wouldn't have to but then he could just focus on the animating. Just a thought.

As for the head looking huge, it could ALSO be that Ho Sung Pak has a lot of volume to his hair.

yes, the camera the camera angle is the problem, and other thing is that in the fighting stance he have the knees bended and I have to bend'em more if I want to match the sprites... remember before the fighting stance no body said he leg looked short cause he wasn't with bended knees..

about the hair, I will change it, cause since I wont animate it, I will sculpt it, the hand will be fixed, I don't know why it looks like this cause I used symmetry.

here you can see, he is not short, he is just bended knees fellas

He does look very short, I had the same problem when making my models. Following the sprites for proportions will give this short / stubby result.

For Cage, I ended up using a picture of a normal guy and anatomy charts, not the distorted sprites.

what if you, arq_hawkin, send the model to bleed, so he can se if the proportions are correct?
I still feel there's something off but i'm not sure what or even why...
maybe is the camera's perspective...

I'll see what I can do if you send it my way.

Proportions are not a big problem to fix after a character has been skinned. There is an option in the Skin modifier that allows you to do some major changes, like moving bones or altering the mesh. You can do this without messing up your skin weights.
