Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

Let me know when you have posed him. I will need the max file so I can make his statue look like the rest.

hello every one, this is not an update a 100% but I just wanted to let you know liu kang is rigged, FINALLY....... there is a problem with the eyes but I will fix it.... what ya'll think

I get what you are saying..but if the quality of the voice work is poor..well then it would be better to use the original. I guess what I am saying is we can pull off new sfx and music but can we make the voices not laughably bad?

I'm moderately interested in MKHD 1.5 I suppose. It would depend on exactly what the scope of that project was, which is a bit in the future anyway. I'm pretty keen about MK2HD though, since that's my personal favorite MK. :)

One thing that I am interested in is discussing the re-use of assets from the original game. This is a pretty important topic to me, because in my view, it will be the sole difference in this project resulting in a legitimate game, as opposed to just another MK Mugen thing. I can't really take any of those "games" too seriously since they are basically hobbled together hacks of actual games. I really want to take this game seriously, and I want others to take it seriously as well. And I feel like if we can say that we made this thing from the ground up that would be a huge stride towards that goal.

I realize a lot of people are leery about changing the sound effects and voices and such, but I believe whole heartedly that good re-creations can be produced, by me as well as any others who would like to contribute. I feel like if we just use the old stuff, it will seem like it's because we "couldn't" make our own. I really think the pros just out-weigh the cons here. We may lose a bit of accuracy or authenticity, but we will have something that we can say is our game, with every tangible asset created by this group, leaving only the IP, an idea basically, being borrowed. Also, if we could accomplish that goal, we really would be a legit indie game studio.

It all just depends on what's more important to you guys. Playing a game that's almost our creation, retaining totally aural accuracy, or playing a game that is totally respectable as our creation, but opening ourselves to the notion of a few differences here and there.

This is something that's been on my mind a lot recently and I wanted to bring up, but I'm not trying to make a big stink about anything. I just want to see what you guys think.

Haha I thought the originals were pretty laughable, but intentionally so, if you know what I mean.

Im going to try my hand at some voices and see what happens. I have pretty good gear and software, so if anyone else wants to record some voices, I can edit it up real nice. So don't be afraid to try on whatever equipment you have handy. :)

I agree completely. Everyone interested should atleast submit a few sound assets.
The more people the better, who knows maybe someone DOES have a huge talent immitating these specific sounds.
I would like to suggest to use the original sounds as a last resort.

agreed. using all new assests except for voice/sfx is bad a idea. Better to make entire game from original assets.

1. how many team members are old school mugen fans, and how many are new to mugen?
2. with the decline of MK MUGEN over the years do you guys feel your projects carries that flag for the community, or do you look at your project as something different and greater?
3. for returning MKP Team members, what lessons have you learned from doing MK Project, how will those lessons help this project?
4. Are their any other fan made games out there, of any genere, that you guys look to for inspiration? I know sonic was a big hit. Have you guys considered you may be making the #1 fangame of any kind ever?

1 = I've been using mugen for around 4 years.

2 = I don't think about it, I'm just looking at what's happening now.

3 = I helped very little with MKP, only made the Dead Pool sprites with the guy in the acid.
I learned quickly not to bother with credits, it's a hassle trying to keep your work safe. Team projects sticking together is a rarity, and you have to be able to move things along on your own. If I have to depend on others too much, the project is not getting far. The community is great about helping others. And what I like the most is being able to use the system to make almost any idea come to life.

4 = I'm not looking at other games for inspiration, only focusing on this one.

You got pretty close for the most part, the voice effects are the ones that seem hard to nail.

I think Scorpion needs more power / anger in his voice.

Raiden's says things like "Jonny get in the car", maybe we can figure out what they say and try to copy it that way.

Liu Kang sounds a bit muffled on the last bunch.

Couldnt you guys grab and use the sound effects and voices from the later MK games?

Only Shang Tsungs voice may have to be redone.

Yeah, but you're missing the point, we'd like to avoid using the official sprites, code or sounds as much as possible, instead make them our selves. It's part of the fun with this project.

@ Jmanimal, how would that be any different than using sounds from MK 1? I don't think we should re use ANY assets from the games, as that would always leave a "MK Hacked Game" stigma with this project.

Also, if you're going to make a re-creation, why would you assume that only graphics need upgrading? That's a weird notion to me. To go through all the trouble of making custom visuals, and just using ripped sound. To me, that would make the whole thing kind of pointless, but all of this is just my opinion.

@Bleed I think the voice effects will be a bit of a challenge, but I think it's totally do-able. One weird thing about these MK1 voices is that they are all distorted. I guess it's because of the cabinet's weak hardware or something, but yeah. Is that something we want to emulate? I applied a bit of distortion to the announcer stuff to get it sounding closer to the original. I'd like to keep things clear and clean, but I'm sure most people would rather go for authentic emulation, distortion and all.

Good stuff, just thought i'de throw that out there incase nobody is able to pull off the voices and sound effects. :)

And yeah, I agree with Rene, the pit screams sound good Justin.

Thanks man. I wasn't trying to gripe. Hope it didn't come off that way. :)

And thank you Rene!!! We need all the attempts we can get! I'll listen as soon as Im back at my proper comp!

Here's my quick attempt at "Scorpion Wins".. if you see any potential in my voice I'll do more. I was trying to match to the original, which is btw voice of John Tobias.

@Bleed, Tobias recently stated that he and only few original MK creators are the only people on earth that actually know what Rayden says during Torpedo dive move. It's kinda their internal secret, lol. He wouldn't reveal it.

we can use any voice, it's only convert it in a program to make it mor like mk1 i already see a program like that, but i don't remember the name =[

Liu Kang very close to this actor Bolo Yeung... mixture of jackie chan, is not like Ho Sung Pak.. would be equal grandmaster Bruce Lee....:)

I think you guys should continue with new sounds / voices.

agreed, Liu Kang is promising, but likeness is not very close.
I do however like the fabric and folds in pants, just my opinions.
