Why does everyone want to make Jade WHITE??

hurray, another Jade's ethnicity discussion lol

I personally always thought of Jade as Indian/Middle Eastern whatever Kim Kardashian is. But does it really matter? Why do people care what her race is???

It's the same deal as Ermac. He originally was black (or extremely tanned!) and his alt costume colour made him white. I liked him better darker skinned to be honest.

I agree with the thread starter. It's rare that African American women are depicted in videogames and they are especially rare in fighting games so as a young black boy when I played umk3 I always assumed she was black. And yes we know she is edinian but we are talking about what race the developers intended her to be when creating the character.

If you remember way back in 2009 when those voice actor audition casting sheets were leaked, they described as Jade as having a strong yet feminine AFRICAN sounding voice

She's Edenian, that is all.
Liu Kang, Sonya, and Jax are human... and are considered to be different races.
Wouldn't Edenians have races as well? Just a thought...
But in my opinion... even though she is Edenian... she's black. A black edenian.
And the reason why she's white in her pictures, well... If anyone's seen The Cosby Show, Denise Huxtable wasn't that black to begin with, nor Sandra...

I say Edenian to stop the debating that will get nowhere, lol.

Jade is played by a white actress who gets 'tinted' to have a tan. I don't see Jade in earlier versions of the game to have african american features, she's just dark. There are people on this planet who are dark and not black, lol.

In later games, I would say she looks more arabic. Sometimes, she looks latina.

The name Jade originated in Spain as well so if I had to choose, I would go with latina, but, yeah, her ethnicity is questionable.

Fun fact that most people don't know- Ermac was actually an amalgam of souls fused into the body of DJ Pauly D, who then got vitiligo.

this is what i meant.
i mean, i like the idea of her being black, because it isn't very often that you come across a black female character who doesn't just "care about herself". jade's main attribute is loyalty, and i like it better that Kitana has a black best friend, to me it gives the game more life an character. i also like it if Tanya is latina, as she looked in MK 4
idk, thats the way i've always thought of it, and if jade was asian or latina... it just doesn't seem to fit, same as if Tanya is black, as just another black girl who "cares about herself"

I think Edenian should be the race. Anyone who says "Liu/etc." Those are from Earth Realm. Where as people/characters from Outworld, NR, CR, and Edenia don't seem to have a specific race.

[NR you can't Wraith/Specters and Oni aren't really races.] [Edenians seem to be a mix of European and Asian qualities] [Outworld is a random mix, the only race we know directly from that realm is Tarkatan.]

That's why I think calling her an Edenian is perfectly correct. They seem to be a mixed race on their own.

In my opinion, she is a collection of pixels without any race or anything. Yes, she looks darker than Mileena and Kitana, but that's what makes her different from them. I don't think the creators of the characters decide, "Oh, we'll make her African American, and we'll make him Mexican" so yeah, the important thing is that characters as amazing as Jade will be playable in Mortal Kombat 9, ain't that all that matters? =]

I beg to differ. i'm pretty sure the creators, when designing jade, didn't just go into the character without an idea of what race they wanted her to be in order to match the features correctly with the character. The simple thing to do is to ask ed boon and the MK Team what race Jade and Tanya were meant to be.

Or maybe Midway/NRS purposely kept her racially ambiguous? I still don't see why this is a big deal.

OKAY PEOPLE, i realize that Edinians are Edinians and they are all the same race, and everything is hunky dory, BUT what i want to know is, WHAT RACE WERE JADE AND TANYA MEANT TO RESEMBLE WHEN THEY WERE MODELED. yes, they could have been made to seem ratially ambiguous, but their debut individual features do not point to this.

were not talking about in the world of mortal kombat people, were talking about what actually ethnicity they wanted the characters to resemble
