Concerning Liu Kang's Bio

It doesn't have to be a twist, you know... They could already just know they're brothers and that's that. It would just simply add a lot of dimensions and fleshing out if they were simply brothers.

It just wouldnt be right. I mean brothers? No, it will be better as cousins if they are related.
 
It would make more sense for them to be brothers.

We don't know anything about Kung Lao's past; it would be easily understandable for him to be another orphan along side Liu Kang because their parents would be dead. Liu Kang's brother is thought to be missing... and for some reason, a descendant of the Great Kung Lao was named after the legend even after failing to defeat another descendant who doesn't have or share the title of their ancestor?

Kung Lao being an alias or an honorable family title bestowed for Chow Kang would make a lot of sense.

And is not Kung Lao not younger then Liu Kang? That would further (not really confirm, but) enforce the possibility that he is Kang's younger brother.

It just still wouldnt be right. It would be better if they are cousins due to both having the same ansetor.
Maybe if The Great Kung Lao's family rasies Kung Lao because he is a ophan like Liu Kang and renames him to Kung Lao instead of Chow Kang to honor The Great Kung Lao. And Liu Kang wins mk1 and in MK2 Kung Lao gets jealous and they end up fighting and Raiden breaks it up by telling them they are brothers and telling them about their past. Then both Liu Kang and Kung Lao will have that little rialvary they had in MKSM.

Seems like it would be a messy, cheesy plot twist :{ I was just thinking of Kung Lao being Chow Kang as a way to flesh out their relationship and create a more believable and relevant bond between the two and their hatred of Shang Tsung. I don't see the need for cliche plot twists like that.

Will there is gonna have to be some kind of explaintion of how they became brother and separted.
 
They could simply have not separated and were both adopted by the Shaolin.

For whatever reason, Chow Kang could be referred to as Kung Lao and Government agencies do not know this and write him off as "missing person".
