New 2-D MK?

How sweet would it be if the next new MK was a new 2-D fighter (like UMK3 or MK4) with all the characters introduced since MK:DA??? And just call it Mortal Kombat 5?

Um, MK4 wasnt 2-D it was 3-D ._.

I would like the idea of it, it would rule. But then again all the n00by fans that barely got into it, would probably hate it for not being 3-D.

MK4 had 3D graphics, but 2D gameplay. In effect, it was pretty much a 2D fighter.

I think personally that this is an awful idea. What you're asking for is a 2D MKA, when we need something to technically push our PS3s and XBox 360s, otherwise the series is gonna get left in the dust during the next round of Tekkens, Soul Caliburs and Dead or Alives. If this was released on XBox Live Arcade or PS Network, then great, or if the DS MK ended up as this, I'd love it, but not as a main new game. And as for calling it MK5? HELLO?

Whatever we get when it arrives, the so-called fans will just piss and moan about it anyway, just like they have done with every game since MK2. I wouldn't blame Midway if they just packed it all in.

A 2-D MK8 would be sweet. However, unlikely as it may be.
I don't see why it wouldn't look good enough though Goraka? Street Fighters always looked better in 2-d. Metal Slug series sells by the bucketloads. I agree that we may already have seen the last MK though, but that's because MK is already behind the benchmark. I'll be happy if we get a new one either way.

I agree with Shao Kahn on the nOObs striking over it. If people know anything about games they can judge it on the merits of the gameplay and how much fun they have, just like we do. Perhaps using less memory on 3-d graphics could convert to more CGI like the story and endings of MK4.

I suppose, I'll see if we get anything new before saying anything else.

If DA was supposed to be MK5, then it would have been called MK5, not DA. To have a new MK made in the style of the old coin-op era, it would be a no brainer to call it MK5 or MKV. Besides, technically MKT was the fifth release, but Ed & Jon went all Capcom on us with the special editions of one game (like the 15 versions of SFII) before the actual sequel.

I can't imagine how easy and inexpensive it'd be to produce some 2D MK games now. It's sad that they won't. Also, MK4 was indeed a 2D fighter with 3D graphics.

I can see your point with that, but some people aren't extremely interested in the actor-photography action of the original 3 MK's. Alot of kids want 3D video games and not a flat-pixel Mario game of the twentieth century. sad but true.

but with the technology today with the 360 & PS3, they could make it look so much better than anything we've ever seen in the series.

They sure could. The newer SF games are still in 2d, but they have a lot of 3d effects in the backround that are 7th gen-console worthy. It would be like viewing the world from one angle- that way they could make the graphics really cool. Anyone see those really professional looking sprite edits from k1llkano, arctic, chrome, and so on? They look like they would fit right into the perfect 2d game.
