Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today releases a special extended trailer for the award-winning and iconic fighting game Mortal Kombat, featuring the playable warrior Kratos -- from the renowned God of War® series -- exclusively for the PlayStation® 3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system.

Launching in April 2011 and developed by NetherRealm Studios, Mortal Kombat is available for pre-order now on both the PS3 and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. The game will be available to consumers in three editions– Standard Edition, Kollector’s Edition and Tournament Edition.

Details of three different editions of Mortal Kombat:

  • The Standard Edition featuring the award-winning Mortal Kombat game.
  • The Kollector’s Edition featuring the award-winning Mortal Kombat game, Sub-Zero and Scorpion figurines, a collectible art book, downloadable content that includes an exclusive Mortal Kombat Klassic costume skin and avatar costumes.
  • The Tournament Edition featuring the award-winning Mortal Kombat game, a portable fight stick, and downloadable content that includes an exclusive Mortal Kombat Klassic costume skin and avatar costumes. The number of tournament editions is very limited with only 20,000 copies available in North America.

Players will be able to pre-order any of the above at North American retailers as of today. Specific pre-order programs include:

  • Amazon: Customers who pre-order their copy of Mortal Kombat on Amazon.com will get exclusive access to the Klassic Reptile Playable Character Skin and the original Reptile Fatality.

Mortal Kombat will feature Kratos as a playable character, as well as be in Stereoscopic 3-D exclusively in the PS3 version. The brutal warrior from the acclaimed God of War franchise will have his own customized move set, fatality, and fighting arena, available to all original purchasers when Mortal Kombat hits stores.

Update 11am CST The first look at Amazon's Klassic Reptile Playable Character Skin pre-order bonus has been revealed. Check it out below, the return to a classic Reptile look just solidified our reasons to pre-order the game via Amazon.

Update 11:30am CST We have uploaded today's Mortal Monday feature, the extended Kratos Announcement Trailer

Update 5:00pm CST: We have finally got pictures of the two special edition retail sets directly from Rigo Cortes Community Manager at NetherRealm Studios. It seems to show the final box art along with the various items included in each set. Also revealed in these pictures is that the Xbox 360 version may be coming with Xbox 360 Exclusive Xbox Avatar based "King of the Hill" online mode along with Avatar Clothing. We are also not sure what the Sub-Zero statue looks like at this time, we were only sent pictures of the Scorpion statue.

I will assume just like other games it will be free for the one's who pick up the original and those who didn't or purchases it used will have to purchase them later. If you have to purchase later they will be bundled. That is pretty much how DLC is going to work.

We are not sure if these items are pre-order only or if they are more of a "early unlock" situation. Meaning you can unlock them in the game, but if you pre-order it you get it early.

I do hope they will be unlockable or maybe a TE release in Europe. European fans always being left out with Collectors/Tournament Editions. ps. The classic Reptile costumes pisses al over scorpion's, reptile's and subzero's MK 2011 costumes.

I really hope the case is an "early unlock". I'm a huge MK fan and everything but I'm only pre-ordering this game once. And because I hate Gamestop (figures they get the Toasty Fatality, grrr) and am indifferent about Sub-Zero and Reptile looks like it'll be the Amazon Pre-Order for me even though I'd prefer Scorpions original Fatality.

Argh! Which one do I get?! Where do I get it from?! I'm overcome with feelings of awesome! Alright, I'm thinking the Kollector's Edition over the Tournament Edition, since I suck at playing with a stick, and as tempting as classic Reptile is, I probably won't get much play out of him anyway, so I'll go with my buddy Scorp.

Wanted to add I hope this is what the final build of the game is like as far as these skins and Fatalities are concerned. Scorpion: New Costume 1 - Unlocked from the start New Costume 2 - Unlocked via the Krypt Classic Costume - Unlocked via the Krypt or unlocked from the start if you pre-order from GameStop Fatality 1 - Unlocked from the start Fatality 2 -Unlocked from the start Classic Fatality - Unlocked via the Krypt or unlocked from the start if you pre-order from GameStop Sub-Zero: New Costume 1 - Unlocked from the start New Costume 2 - Unlocked via the Krypt Classic Costume - Unlocked via the Krypt or unlocked from the start if you pre-order from Best Buy Fatality 1 - Unlocked from the start Fatality 2 -Unlocked from the start Classic Fatality - Unlocked via the Krypt or unlocked from the start if you pre-order from Best Buy Reptile: New Costume 1 - Unlocked from the start New Costume 2 - Unlocked via the Krypt Classic Costume - Unlocked via the Krypt or unlocked from the start if you pre-order from Amazon Fatality 1 - Unlocked from the start Fatality 2 -Unlocked from the start Classic Fatality - Unlocked via the Krypt or unlocked from the start if you pre-order from Amazon Otherwise I'm going to be super disappointed with WB and NetherRealm Studios and the fact that they will make us pay for DLC in order to get the other two ninjas classic outfits and Fatalities!

Guys i have a question, does the tournament addition ADD ON to the kollectors edition, or are they seperate. Basically im trying to say is do you get the art book and figurine, as well as the arcade stick, or are the editions completely different, when it comes to the stated kontent.
December 13th, 2010 6:38 PM CST - Ricochetmatt
I want those damn figurines. They'll look amazing next to my 500 other geeky statues. I kinda want the arcade thing as well... Sigh... I hate decisions like this.

That arcade stick looks beautiful. Love the wood construction and hinged top. I'm a little worried about that detachable usb cable...

Any news on a European release of these special editions? They look awesome!
December 15th, 2010 8:49 PM CST - whtillnvrb
I posted a thread about this but it might get a little more attention over here. Just a heads up for the International fans. If you go over to the pre-order section of the official site they have links for some of you and more coming soon. Sorry but right now there is no Tournament Edition for any one but USA and Australia but I hope this help you guys out. http://www.themortalkombat.com/web/g...order?lc=en_US Oh and for all of us here in the USA they have links for all the versions from Best Buy, Gamestop, Amazon and Walmart but some of the sites haven't all been update yet.
December 16th, 2010 7:18 AM CST - Smokeslair.com
can someone clear this up for me, I'm a little confused. Does the Tournament Edition include the "bookends" that are included with the Kollector's Edition, or is it just the fight-stick? Thanks!
December 16th, 2010 1:47 PM CST - DCR
Just the stick. If you want the figurines you have to spring for the KE.
