News on the Mortal Kombat 9 front has been quiet for a while. The team is hard at work now that things have settled down after the Warner Bros acquisition was completed. They have been actively hiring team members to fill out the development studio since summer.

We don't expect the silence to last for too much longer as the hype machine is likely to start rolling up soon as the release is coming! Recently we've been hearing various murmurings that the Mortal Kombat Team has a set timeframe for Mortal Kombat 9 already. All signs appear to be pointing towards the team targeting to have the game shipped and in our hands by Christmas 2010! We haven't heard a concrete release date at this time, but we know for sure that's the internal project timeframe is to have it released just in time for Christmas.

Fans around the world better be nice next year if you are anticipating Santa to put a copy of Mortal Kombat 9 in your stockings a year from now! So you don't want to be getting on Santa's naughty list anytime soon!

I almost crapped out bricks when I thought it said Xmas 2009. This is great news. Where exactly did you find this out though? Where were the murmurs?

Well this is great news! Not much news, BUT NEWS! I'm holding my breath for renders, potential plotlines, info on when the game takes place canonically...I haven't had any new MK mythos since MKD!

Lol, I read the words "potential plotlines" as "potential plotholes" the first time I read that. But yes, great news indeed even if its just to say "more on the way".

But it means we'll have news by E3 at the latest. Probably a formal announcement with a trailer and screenshots.

I'd mark like crazy if it went back to the old 2D style but I doubt that will happen. Ah well, as long as Raiden is in it, I'll be a happy girl.

Certain cast members cannot be lost; Subby, Scorpy, Raiden...y, Liuy and Sonya-y. Lol. I don't really care if the Blackdragon is retired, they've more then done their fair share of the MK plotline by now, but those 5 would go amiss and Liu needs to be back - alive.

They need to stick to a plot line that's for damn sure.

-Red Dragon Vs Black Dragon Vs The Special Forces -Khan retaking Kitana's world. -Shinnok -The necromancers -The Cyborgs. -Fujin and Raiden at odds with each other right now. -Order Realm Vs Chaos Realm. In my opinion, as this is the tip of the iceberg, they need to resolve some of these old plots.

Since Armageddon doesn't have a definitive ending, there's no telling what the story of 9 will be. I'm more interested in seeing the story focus on the power struggle over the realms between Daegon and Taven. How many more games can Raiden still protect the good? It's time for a new story/cast, but some veteran Kombatants can stay, depending on where they side themselves. Personally, I'd love for Raiden to join the rest of the Elder Gods, and hand the burden of Earthrealm protector to Liu Kang. Couldn't Kitana and Liu Kang have a kid at this point? Why couldn't a son of the two enter the Kombat? Daegon could easily expand the Red Dragon into an inter-realm (Outworld, Chaosworld, Netherrealm) terrorist syndicate, whereas Taven could easily unite warriors from Earthrealm and Edenia. Those infamous villians who refuse to join the Red Dragon's fight could either be banished to rot in Outworld &/or Chaosworld, or simply be killed. Then, the few who survive, but don't want to take sides &/or avoid the radar altogether could simply dwell in a purgatory-like realm. Of course, Scorpion would remain neutral, and simply be an assassin-for-hire.

Ah, KS, you remind me why I get so excited for every MK game. Its not just the fighting, its frustration of waiting to see which plots do progress and which are lost. If you want my opinion, MK's always set up (except Arm) some of the most beautiful "See you next game..." issues there out there for any game.

That "see you next game..." was what kept me coming to these forums for months after MKDA and MKD were released. MKA was such a plot dissapointment, it left nothing to discuss, nothing at all. MKvDC was the same way since it wasn't cannon and advanced nothing. Gameplay completely aside, I'm STARVING for new MK plot points and storylines!

I pray they are going to take the MK series back to a somewhat competitive level, the last few MK games have been very hard for me to get into.

Me too, MK:A didn't really bring the story for me. It was really just a big showoff of the roster and how many people they can make bosses.

I really wish they would go back to 2D like Street Fighter did. Street Fighter IV was a really fun game. I love the old school idea, plus they can make MK controllers!!!! LOL

That's what I loved about SF4! It was old school but with a new, polished look to it. I really hope MK took note of SF4 and decides to go back to it's roots. I would smile forever.
