Will the 3 character variations actually work?

I am a casual player but I knew from the beginning some things NEEDED to be changed.

Nightwolf was my main in MK9. For my style, he was the right one. But I eventually picked Sheeva and I have serious major complaints about her: I don't know why they felt that improving her low grab (one of her best moves) would be broken... especially when you cannot punish LOW attacks with it. For example, if you blocked Sub-Zero's slide, you could not low grab him with Sheeva. I simply don't get this. When the game came, Kung Lao was undoubtly op. Insanely good on every level and he still is. Before the patches Kung Lao vs Sheeva was a ridiculous match-up. Kung Lao eventually became a good character even though he still is high-top tier for sure. Cyrax's resets and bombs though, that is a tough one.

Mortal Kombat has always been known to be an unbalanced fighting game, sooo I hope in X this is changed for good.

Marcelino Rodrigues, you're NOT a casual player.
You aren't casual player if you spend enough time to learn match ups with different characters, and get good at the game.

This is probably largely offtopic, but am I the one who was annoyed by the fact that in MK9 grounded players are invincible, thus disallowing things like chaining Sub-Zero's slide after an uppercut (a very basic, classic one-two in the first games).

Now Sub-Zero's slide just slides through when the opponent is on the floor. Same goes for sweeps.

The grounded opponent could block just like you can do now with delayed wakeups, so it's not like this opened up a loophole or anything.

I wouldn't get to riled up about it, it seems like they got it handled. But to me the 3 variations will add variety to the game mix and match. i think predominately players will stick to 1 variant more than others but they'll have to play all 3 before they decide that. And not to mention some variants will have somethings others won't. You might play well with Variant A but like what Variant C offers! So like i said you might have a dominate variant but you'll switch things up, bc you don't want this to get stale!

While I do like that the fact the variations come with there own strengths and weakness I do see some varitions either being too powerfull are just flat out useless buuuuuuuuuttttttttt that is small potatoes to an otherwise good idea

I really think that there are variations that are more...interesting than others.

I mean, Displacer Raiden is totally awesome, I saw it better than the one that places traps, this one fits better (theoretically) with arcade.

But we must remmeber that all characters have variations. Of course we can have a higher number of players that usually prefer one variation, but the styles are different for every kind of battle.

I think the best example is Kano's variations. I loved Commando, but I never got well with parry. But lots of people do, and there are others (including here) that loved Cybernetic, and other the first one I forgot the name.

I believe they will work, because it's a combination, as I said, all of them have combinations, and we will sure discover what betters fits on gameplay.

I think that the three character variations will work,it will make the special, enhanced & x-ray moves more better & advanced.

I think they are a waste of time 99% of us will find a variation we like and stick with it. EVO player will use them but thats a small piece

In a sense, it's NRS to way multiply their move sets without using as many character models. By treating each variation as their own character and making the appropriate balance, it can be a functional game.

That being said, I don't find the concept all that interesting. I'd rather make room for more characters with one style than fewer characters with multiple styles.

Ok the only way i think that the 3 variations "would" fail is if there happens to be a last minute character that they have rushed and squeezed into the game.
When I think about it, it really wouldn't be a crime for there to be a character without 3 variations in the game... i mean back in the day some characters only had 1 special move lol.

Anyway a couple questions i have pertaining Ferra/Torr... What will there variations be??
Also do you ever see Ferra in a future MK game without Torr?

Ferra/Torr already had their variations shown off.

Ruthless has Ferra stabbing Torr to give him a damage boost
Lackey is Torr in solo mode, but Ferra still cheers him on from the sidelines
I don't remember the last one, but it's his signature one where he's tossing her around

That may be the case for you if you stick to only 1 variation, but that may not be the case with other people.

For example (this is not necessarily true) :

I can see me using "Cryomancer" Sub-Zero in MKX because that is the variation that appeals to me the most, but if "Cryomancer" Sub-Zero is constantly getting me bodied versus "Displacer" Raiden, I am definitely going to try 1 of the other 2 Sub-Zero variations versus Displacer Raiden, next time, until I find out the version that works more in my favor vs Displacer Raiden.

Knowing your match-ups isn't only a Pro thing.
If you want to get good at playing MKX online versus other people, and not just the computer AI, chances are that you will need to be familiar with your match-ups, unless you like getting defeated.

Personally, I haven't choose the Scorpion variation I will use. I found all of them very different.

Displacer Raiden is very likely that I will play first, but I also loved the one with combos. The other with traps, I must play to know.

Anyway, I will play all!!!!!!
