What I've noticed with this board

Is that there tends to be a bit of elitism of people's opinions based on how long they have been playing the game. There also seems to be rampant biases of what is important to criticize and what is minimal.

For example, a lot of people thought the thread about the MK Female attire and the fatalities being dismemberments were pointless, but then that thread about how black Noob Saibot should be and whether or not Goro and Shao Kahn are playable were a big deal. The same people saying details matter in the Noob thread were saying they don't matter in the other threads.

I've been playing MK since MK2 so IDK if that classifies me as old-school or new, but it seems as if a lot of people who have been playing the game a really long time try to belittle the opinions of the noobs.

Opinions are opinions, no matter who they are from.

What I really like about MK2011 is that people who may not have had a chance to see MK from the beginning of the story now have the opportunity but many of you are turning those people away with your attitude.

I understand it's frustrating, but with each thread I read, the board seems more of a kollection of MK fans rather than an MK kommunity.

just my two lincolns

This happens on any and every board. There will always be people who think they are 100% right, no matter what, and will fight over the silliest things. It's not just this forum.

I have been playing it since I was 8 years old and I don't try to belittle the 'noobs'. The elitism comes from all sides, not just the new fans vs the old fans.

It's a mixed bag here...there are plenty of cool people and there are plenty of douche bags. Just like in real life.

Some people's opinions carry more weight than others when it comes to things like this, in some eyes.
I'd care more about what Ghandi thought about the meaning of life rather than what Nixon thought.

im definitely not an elitist, i welcome any new players to the MK fanbase.. so long as theyre not spewing ignorant crap like "teh Noob is silly name why name him that??" or "i want a bj from mileena!". once i read a comment on a video claiming mileena was a vampire -.-

Anyway, back from my tangent, i like that MK is becoming more popular. that ensures that we get more quality MKs in the future! heheh

I seriously dislike the Elitism attitudes of some members of the site ( Not naming names ), It just simply DOESN'T HURT to just nicen up about it, I've noticed there's alot of new members who haven't been exposed to MK as much as other members, they're willing to learn from other members about MK. But If there's just Elitists riding on their high horses it just puts them off with the website, and It sucks because there's members out there who'd love to help them out.

I mean I've been playing Mortal Kombat ever since I got my first console, the Sega Megadrive when I was 5 years old, so I've had alot of years on me with Mortal Kombat, but in no way shape or form will I ever brag about it or use it to boost my "ego" on the website, I'm here to have good conversation with Members about Mortal Kombat, and to help out if anyone asks.

I tend to think people get too carried away or sucked into threads that doesn't really effect the game istelf in a huge manor, It's a trend I've seen on alot of forums just recently, many hate and raged fuelled posts have been springing up everywhere over the tiniest of things...

I just think people need to chill the f*** out at times, It's not an IMPORTANT thing to b*tch about compared to what you see on the News, you know? something REAL.

Whats a elitist?

a gamer who prefers their series to only be played by others who have as much understanding/experience with it as they do.

hey Aldo, you know i mean no disrespect, but i notice youre only 16. dont they card you when you try to buy M-rated games? ;)

Whats a elitist?

An elitist is a person who thinks theyre superior than newbs and shouldnt be playing the game unless theyre at their level. Thats in gaming terms, otherwise an elitist is someone who believe what they believe in is superior than others.

As far as my opinion on this matter goes, all I have to say is that this is not just on forums, its in life. I love new fans, its only annoying if new fans jump into the series and pretend like they know everything when they really dont.

My bad, I didn't mean to post this in the wrong section.

Any way, just like everyone else, I do get slightly annoyed when people ask, in my opinion, dumb questions. But if I'm talking to someone who just started playing two years ago, I grow patience with them rather than attacking.

thats what a lot of people dont understand. it's better to try and teach first, by welcoming them and showing them the ropes.

not lashing out because they feel like their favorite franchise is being invaded

....but a dumb question to you may be a legit question from someone who really doesn't know the answer.

Elistism happens everywhere in the world. Unfortunately.

I always try to be nice with people. If I ever disrespected anyone here or said irrational things, my apologies :)
