What is best about Mortal Kombat?

To me mortal kombat has always had that special mix of accessability with plenty of hidden gems both within the fighting system and because of things like hidden characters and finishers sadly though the internet has taken most of the power out of the secrets though
 
Blood, Gore, Fatalities, Characters and Story. That and this going back to when I was young playing the first one.

The overall atmoshpere of the game has always drawn me in... this includes the story, character design, and level design. I always felt like most of this took a step back when everything went 3D, but it's back BIG TIME with the first high def MK. I'm back to just loving the characters and every new stage that I see. Just awesome overall.

The gameplay has always been good enough because I'm not a hard core fighting fan. After playing the demo I think the fighting engine is top notch so the gameplay will definitely be right up there with everything else now!!!!
 
The best thing about Mortal Kombat is that it's only 4 and a half days from release (Gamestop midnight release on April 18th).
AAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!

This wait is killing me.
I grow impatient.
