Underworld Evolution

I'm going to check this out tonight, trusty pint o' Captain in coat, and will then give my detailed account of this highly anticipated sequel. But, I figured I'd make an initial thread for anyone to tell me what they thought of it if they had happened to catch it on opening night yesterday.

I really do wanna see this, cause I liked part 1 alot. Sadly, I havent heard anything yet about this weather or not this film is good or bad. I guess we'll find out tonight, eh.

I'm also gonna be seeing this one but I just don't know when. I guess when my brother and I can both find a day off work or something. I liked the second one - especially the ass whooping Vincent put on at the end of the movie.

I saw this last night (opening night, hell yeah!). It was awesome. The acting was awesome, the special effects were great, the story was nice and in depth. You had to think about it a lot, I like that. I cant really write a good review, I just dont know hoe...but anyway. I loved it, it is worth buying on dvd.

You mean the first one don't you ?

As for this movie i've only seen the first one of this it was allright but this sequal actaully looks heaps better from the previews

Here is my very simple but accurate account since I just finished seeing Evolution:

If you liked or even loved (like me) the first Underworld, you MUST see Evo. IT BLOWS THE FIRST ONE AWAY!!! I freakin' loved it! If I can get in touch w/ a buddy of mine, I might see the bitch again tonight!

I'm really surprised anyone liked it at all...it was really, really terrible. Acting was mediocre, plot was just plain stupid...the whole thing just seemed to drag on and on.

Sorta spoiler:

The hybrid guy dies. Ok, cool. however, he MAGICALLY returns to life a couple hours later (movie-time). Alright, i can just say that's because he's a hybrid and is fantastical like that. Suddenly Selene is no longer allergic to sunlight. Where in the fuck does that come in? Maybe when Markus IMPALES HER WITH HIS WING, it gives her SUPERPOWERS.

All in all, not worth the money of seeing...maybe a rental, but even that's stretching it.

And I know I'll probably hear about how I "didn't think about the movie." Blow me. When there are people running through Russia in the winter with no shirts on, and not freezing to death, I refuse to give this movie any credit.

Alright, I'll respect your review while challenging it with answers to your own questions.

The hybrid guy dies. Ok, cool. however, he MAGICALLY returns to life a couple hours later (movie-time).

As stated in the movie prior to his supposed death, he is a hybrid, and his powers are untold and possibly limitless. He was not impaled by silver, but did get a wooden stake through the heart. His vampiric weakness would be the wooden stake, but his Lycan strength would conceivably allow him to regenerate.

Selene is no longer allergic to sunlight. Where in the !@#$ does that come in? Maybe when Markus IMPALES HER WITH HIS WING, it gives her SUPERPOWERS.
This is the easy one I am suprised you missed. She drank the blood of Alexander, the first immortal, whom was human throughout his immortality. No fangs, no wings, no fur, but an undying human that walks in the sun. He told Seleen that by drinking his blood she would become "the future", which, in essence, is a vampire whom can survive the daylight (i.e., Blade). So actually, she had that abillity since she drank from him after Marcus dropped him, but we didn't get to see that reality until the end. The fact that she still had 2 inch fangs in the light proved Marcus's prophecy to be false, and only a ploy to deter Victor throughout the milleniums from killing him or William.

When there are people running through Russia in the winter with no shirts on, and not freezing to death, I refuse to give this movie any credit.
The only people I recall doing this were immortals. Who else ran through Russia bare chested? In TRMK fashion, I will refrain the inevitable MKO conclusion that it was your mother, so please, clarify, because you are losing points here, and leading me to agree that, yes:
You..
"didn't think about the movie."

And now, after my challenged retort, I encourage you to further discredit this otherwise highly entertaining sequel with examples of scenarios that cannot easily be explained by a fan of the series.

And for anyone else that took this film as subpar, I would like to say
as my challenger did, but I indeed respect your opinions and welcome the opportunity to refute them with an educated and well observed point of view.

Kudos.

Alright, he can regenerate. But, why would it take so long for him to regenerate? I don't understand that.

Alright, I admit it. I'm a dumbass for managing to miss/forget that part of the movie.

Even so, don't you think it would still be just a bit cold? Just because you're immortal, somehow you can withstand extreme cold? I can't buy that, man.

, so, I will await the rebuttle with giddy anticipation.

Rather have a debate than an argument, aye :D Especially when I'm losing

Eh, you win. I just felt cheated out of $9, and probably shouldn't have posted what I did. either way, its done now, right?

Dont' get me wrong, I wasn't shooting for a flame war, I just love a good debate, especially when I am confident on a topic. So, to begin my response, it is "over", as far as arguments are concerned, but I do invite your thoughts to talk about aspects of the movie. As such:

Alright, he can regenerate. But, why would it take so long for him to regenerate? I don't understand that.
Aside from the, "Michael revives to come and save the hot chick" element, there is no value in this beyond the hypothetical scenario that he was killed as a vampire but his Lycan powers took time to regenerate him. Did that take too long? Yep. But that's Hollywood and they needed that element, even if it was abundantly apparent that would happen. I'll concede this point to the overdone and obvious, but it is still conceivable, from an inconceivable "vampires and werewolves exist" point of view.

Even so, don't you think it would still be just a bit cold? Just because you're immortal, somehow you can withstand extreme cold? I can't buy that, man.
The only element I have ever heard of being able to harm a vampire or werewolf (the latter only in some mythology) is fire, not cold. If you're basically the walking dead, you're room temperature anyway, so how could cold be of any effect on you unless it was at a temp that would instantly freeze and destroy your internal organs?

Anyway, that's my two cents. Sorry you felt cheated. I genuinely felt that this was a more than adequate sequel, and now I look forward to the prequel for the third installment.

I'll have to agree with you Whatashame.. My wife and I love the first movie ALOT.. I thought this was a good movie, but I still like the first one better.. the Story in this one really kept me entertained..

Dis, I will concur with you that it too him WAY too long to regenerate, but the shirtless thing, not really an issue.. that's grasping at straws.. I'm sorry you were Disappointed! ;)

My favorite thing about the film was the fact that it was so in-depth, and wasn't just a movie ABOUT vampires and stuff. They really put a good string on the sequel.

My least favorite thing was the sex scenes. It was awkward because I was sitting next to my dad, the theater had nine people watching it, and I'm sitting watching Selene getting entered by the Lycan hybrid....

Do Lycan's have penises? I've never seen them

Was your completely right and Disappointed you should really pay better attention to a movie your watching. And the simple fact they are IMMORTAL mean they can withstand anything but what specifically kills them and Im sorry cold does not kill them.

This is one of the rare movies that was at least as good as the first if not better(although I still like the first one better just cuz it was the first one). Definately an incredible movie and a badass fatality like death for Markus.

I just got done seeing the movie with my brother. We are pretty critical of movies and usually start cracking up during most we see but we both thought this movie was pretty good.

I liked the first one as it differs from most vampire movies and I thought this one was a solid sequel. Good story, good mix of intrigue and action, a little romance, and some good characters.

I'm still a bit fuzzy on something. How exactly was Marcus a hybrid? I didn't really make the connection ... maybe im missing something.

He became a hybrid cuz he drank the blood of the Lycan that was killed above his holding cell thing and just like Michael when he drank the Lycan blood he became a hybrid. I think it only happens with the Corvinus bloodline though, but I could be wrong about that.

Ah, okay. I forgot that guy killed in the "resting" chamber was a Lycan. I havn't seen the first one in a few months and I remembered him as being a vampire. Guess him being a Lycan explains it.

Good movie. I recommend it to anyone who liked the first one. If you havn't seen the first you will be confused with this one, as it takes place just after #1 and heavily relies on it to tell a story. Check #1 out and then go see #2. Fun stuff.
