This is where i think they went wrong

I expect that a majority of the Earthrealm combatants will be brought back. At least, I hope Kitana is. It really is hard to gauge though. A lot of their newer characters were not very liked, so investing heavily in them for the next game may not be a very good idea.

It also makes you wonder how well received any brand new characters would be...

I think new characters would be received better for a number of reasons. Being introduced in a 2D game will help, especially a 2D game that is so widely-regarded as the culmination of the MK series. If they're brought in the next game, they're set up for a great follow-up game which would improve their reception. NetherRealm has also been putting more effort into each individual character than they did for many of the MK4+ characters. If done well, new guys and gals could see some warm greetings.

You think that characters like Kobra, Drahmin, Li Mei, and or Dairou would be more popular if released on a 2D plane? I did not find those characters as remotely interesting compared to others, it had very little to do with gameplay mechanics. Hopefully they can generate some new characters who are just as engaging and colorful as the line up in this game, but it would be quite the task for NRS. Also, Given their newer characters tend to be... underwhelming, for the most part.

Die Kobra!!! DIE!!!!

I imagine there will be new characters, but I think phasing them in 3-4 at a time would be more effective then just starting on a clean slate. That said, maybe I am just old fashioned and don't want to see my favorites rotate out of the next game, xD

I was referring primarily to brand spankin' new characters. Even mentioning the MK4+ characters was just an example of how uninspiring character design became. Prime example being Kobra. They were pushing out a lot of games very quickly and they were forced to create new characters because of the loss of klassic characters. NetherRealm Studios can take more time than pumping out five games in six years and really give any new characters the time and effort they deserve.

I assumed you meant brand new characters. Hopefully you're right and they can push out some new characters who are creative and exciting to play as, but I think straying too far from the originals too quickly would be a mistake.

Too quickly would indeed be a mistake, but slowly dropping some good new characters into the mix (like Skarlet, hopefully) could pay off.

I know that they will probalby be ressurected in the next game but I thought it was ridiculous how Sindel killed everyone.

That was the biggest cop out in my opinion, and the problem was Sindel wasen't in story mode long enough to show you just how powerful she really was.

But the rest of Story Mode was just phenomonal, and as for Cyber Sub Zero I personally liked him.

Where did they go wrong? I read your, not seeing anything wrong with what they did. And as for Sindel:

Sindel was able to kill everyone because A) She is already powerful. B) She gets all of Shang Tsung's power, but doesn't have the curse that Shang Tsung has. Making her even more powerful.

Nightwolf doesn't stand up to her at all. NRS just put the fight in there so you had some gameplay, before the end of the chapter and Nightwolf killing himself.

To me the fights are just filler and the end result IMO is the cutscene after the fight.

Plus, Nightwolf is kind of a badass.

The Story mode was perfect I wouldn't chance anything, knowing that it's an alternate timeline and not the real story, but a great story none-the-less

Er ... it may be an alternate timeline, but it is the real story. The other timeline no longer exists. And if it did exist, everyone but Shao Kahn would be dead.

I had a huge problem with the Sindel/Nightwolf fight. Sindel literally goes through the Earthrealm warriors like they were never even there, but when she gets to Nightwolf, she gets killed by him. Granted, he kills himself at the same time, but the fact that he was able to keep up for so long when the other warriors were slaughtered like cattle irks me. With all of that power, why not have him participate in the tournament from the beginning? Certainly seemed alot stronger than both Kung Lao and Liu Kang.

Nightwolf did take part in the tournament - the first one anyways.

Her power level wasn't a problem for me. What bothered me was the fact that everyone lined up to be slaughtered one-by-one was what ruffled my feathers. If they all swarmed her and intelligently used their numbers to their, rather serious, advantage they might have put up a better fight. They fought almost exclusively one-on-one which is just idiotic. They weren't challenged to Mortal Kombat and therefor the whole one-on-one thing falls under the "brain dead" classification of decision.

I always hate when people do that in stories too. Not only would swarming her be better for them, it would've have also made Sindel more badass when she defeats them by fighting them all at the same time.

But other than that (And some outside problems, like the fact that you can't skip cutscenes, or just choose a chapter and play it instead of having to play it from the beginning), I loved story mode.

I do agree about Sindel, If all the fighters would have attacked at once and it was like a 7 on 1 with her owning, ok cool. But she has the action hero entrance scene where 1 character runs up, down, 2nd character runs up, down, etc.

I think it would have been better for characters to die off one by one, would have been more realistic. opposed to "oh i can't kill this person"

just my opinion
