This game = The greatest art direction in a fighting game yet.

agreed..i can actually stand playing MK4..its everything after that as far as im concerned never existed ...MKDA through MKA were so horrible i wont even look there way...i also want to shove boons face in a pile of those abominations and yell NO while tapping his nose like you would an animal after peeing on the floor....

I bursted in laughter at that image of Boon in my mind haha.

Dark Stalkers

Oh yeah. And I disagree with all of them. Mortal Kombat captures the sinister visual tone of MKII and just takes it to God of War III/Castlevania:LoS artistic levels. There are older 2D games, such as Samurai Shodown II, The Last Blade, and Gorou: MotW that really showcase beautiful timeless art and impresses on your mind the moment you see them. This new MK is the first 3D fighter to really have that same impact on me.

That's fine if you disagree. I'm just saying, I disagree. Why do people have to turn these agree/disagree topics into arguments for no reason or lead into them?

If you agree with OP/other poster post it move on.

Disagree post it and move on. Don't attack another person's opinion.

Don't try to change someone's opinion. Like I said before, I believe they did fine, but I personally have seen better. opinion wise

Since that's what art is. Subjectivity.

Edit: Oh and just to clarify on 3D fighters, I think Soul Calibur 2, 3, and Tekken 6 were amazing within atmosphere, drawing in raw emotion and everything else that makes art fine. Especially Nightmare in the cursed Cathedral in SC2 when Raphael confronts him. Beautiful.

I love the little touches, like the blood fountains on the pit floor dirtying the character....there's more but I was up all night playing and I'm too tired to think right now lol.

Shame on other fighting games, MK9 is awesome in every single aspect, and it's not different in art direction. I had never seen a fighting game with that much stages and all of them being awesome. Tekken 6 had a lot of stages, but some of them were not cool at all (Rustic Asia). Most of the characters design are very goos IMO, I just can't say much about alternate costumes, cause I haven't seen many of them (I want to be surprised, in a good or bad way, when I unlock them).

i agree the game looks stunning in places with all the little touches.. but the character faces on the portraits are absolutely horrendous!!..MK games always seem to have the worst looking face portraits...looks like they're done by an amateur fan.... rubbish....

While I agree mk9 is the best looking game in the series despite using the same engine as mkvdc there's still a part of me that wonders what nrs could have done if they went back to their sprite based roots with today's technology and compairing this game to gg bb and DS is like compairing apples to oranges since they are all sprite based

Tekken has NEVER been considered better than Street Fighter lolololol Definitely not the lackluster Tekken 6 compared to the brilliant Super Street Fighter IV.

But on topic, yes. MK is absolutely gorgeous.

I disagree. GG, BB, DS, SC, and Tekken, seem more detailed to me. But MK has done a fine job on its own accord.

Haha tekken better graphics then MK9. I respectfully disagree. The stages and character design in tekken cant hold a candle to the latest mk. The stages in tekken are horrid. Bland plain and way to much reflective glowing neon colors.

I know no game has gotten long hair truly right, but Smoke's is just AWFUL in game. SO glitchy. I love the hair itself, but it's implementation is straight out of the PS1-2 era.

Nah, I'm glad NRS went the 2.5D hybrid route. Just look up Dong Dong never die if you're wondering what a new Hi-Rez MK would look like :D. With 2d sprites, you can't have the epic X-rays, fatalities, or story mode that we got.

I still wanted Hi-Rez updates to the old trilogy though :(.

I was looking forward to MKHD when the rumours were doing the rounds, but I don't think a return to 2D sprites is the way to go for future MK games. It suits games like Street Fighter because of their cartoon-like presentation, but MK's "realistic" presentation is better suited to 3D models. I'd say NRS made an excellent choice in turning MK into a 2.5D game.

I'm just blown away about the level of art the game has managed to achieve. It just blows every other fighter out of the water hands down. The character detail and gorgeous backgrounds, simply amazing. Bravo to NRS to bringing back Mortal Kombat in all its' dark glory. :hail:

And Smoke looks AWESOME, don't change him NRS! (At least not before he turns into robo-smoke )

I totally agree. This is the best fighting game i have played this gen.

Only think I would like to see in the sequel is totally new characters and different sizes with the characters like short, tall, fat etc....

EDIT:Oh and when this game was first announced I thought they would have totally did an old school with filming live people as the characters in a totally 3D way just like in the Matrix movies etc...

Im so glad MK9 hasnt followed the trend of ugly FAT disquisting characters like SF rufus and Tekkens Bob, I know they are strong characters but making them Fat is the dumbest thing I ever seen.
