Switching From A DualShock3 To A Fight Stick(Questions).

What up TRMK Kombatants! Its BattleScarZ or Chris is fine as well. I just needed some questions answered about DualShock3 Vs. Fight Stick. Any and all advice is welcomed and very appreciated.

So Ive been playing MK2011 since the demo dropped in March on PSN+ and Im an intermediate player but slowly improving my game online and hopefully becoming an advanced player. Ive been using a PS3 DualShock3 for the entire time and seem to do just fine on it. Ive beat quite a few players that use fight sticks. I didnt have the cash to drop on a stick and opted for the KE. But as a child of the Mid 80s and arcades I cant help but feel my game could be improved greatly with a stick. So the main things I need to know are.
1- Are fight sticks worth the price? Mainly the PDP MK sticks.

2- How well are they made? Heard stories of peoples breaking down after awhile.

3- How big of a transition between DualShock
and Fight stick.

I worry where Im used to the way you drop X-Rays and the buttons on the dualshock are so close Its gonna be strange switching to the old MK arcade button lay out. Mainly because Im comfortable with the kind of angle the PS3 buttons sit at. And the MK stick buttons sit so far apart in a square formation with block in the middle. But I know the merits of a joystick Vs. a D-Pad more precise and what not.

So if you have any advice,suggestions,similar experiences please drop some science on me.
If any of you have found that other Fight sticks besides the PDP MK sticks that work well with MK2011 please let me know.

Thanx alot guys!

I think moving on from Dual Shock is a good idea because the controller is just not made for this mk. I tried Fightstick before and suck terribly at it, I opted for a SF4 MadCatz fightpad and I can assure you that you will be satisfied. It is cheap but highly reliable, precise and comfortable. You can pick it up on ebay for as low as 10 bucks.

Thanks man! For that cheap I might just grip one and give it a shot. But Id really like to give a fight stick a shot. A stick is just so much more precise than a D-Pad and leaves less room for mistakes.

Well I have the MK fight stick but moved it to play the classic MK's, the buttons are spreaded too far for me. Can't pull off the simplest combo with it in MK9. Other fight sticks are better for that I think, for now I'll... stick... (lol) to my Dual Shock. It's perfect for MK9 IMO... for a while that is till your thumbs burn from rubbin' the D-pad so fast doing those insane bnb's, analog stick control is not doing it for me neither so D-pad FTW but if you've got a 360 then everything is better than that awful D-pad monstrosity :)

No I play PS3. I wish I wouldve got the TE Id trade my KE statues and art book and a little cash for a MK fight stick. Guess Ill have to wait til PDP drops the Klassic skin fight stick.

If your going to switch to a stick go with the combat fight panel from madcatz the buttons are closer and more responsive also if you want the happ feel on the stick get a SEIMITSU LS 56 01 with a round gate and bat top.

No problem mate.

Just remember to map it this way, it's excellent for MK :

sf4pad.jpg

Square: 2
X = 1
Triangle = Tag
Circle = Grab
R1 = 4
R2 = 3
L1 = Stance
L2 = Block

I promise you you wont regret it. It is ideal for tag combos, simultaneous button press combos.

i myself got the big sf4 fightstick, if you have the money and feel you will make enough use of it (will need to play more fighting games then just mk imo) then it can be worth it. its extremely responsive, tho takes a bit to get used to. i myself and happy with my purchase tho it cost me 120$

DO NOT BUY THE PDP IT WILL BREAK BEFORE YOU TAKE IT OUT OF THE BOX!
- i would (did) buy a ex 2 there made really well and will last you can find one for $30-$60 on amazon or ebay.

using a fight stick is like writing with your left hand (if your right handed). if you buy one "stick" with it, it will be worth your time.

also mk is not quarter circle so you can hit and hold down then slightly tap left or right (staying down) and do your attacks.

also most top players use a pad for mk so if i were you just playing mk i would stick with the pad. a fight stick is not going to make you better its just a controller shaped a different way. im guessing you haven't used a fight stick since the 90's so if you want the nostalgic feeling go for it!
