Style-branching moves training - help!

First, just so you know, I did a search for this but it didn't come up with a solution.

I'm stuck in Earthrealm (I just got the game last night), in the academy, trying to do these darned style-branching combos! I can't seem to figure out what I'm supposed to do - Shujinko's "Poor Soul" combo is X,Y,B,<cs> - but whenever I try to do this, I can't get a combo started. (Yes, I'm using the right style to start with.) The first attack won't allow me to press ANY button quickly afterward, to get the combo going.

I've tried three different brands of controllers too (just in case that's my problem). I realize this must be a "you've just gotta be good at it" thing, but any help would be appreciated on explaining how to do these combos in layman's terms. Thanks in advance!

You basicly just need to learn the right speed to do it on. I had ALOT of problems with these back in DA but now i love um. Basicly you just hit all the bottons during the same speed, what i mean by that is...
If the combo is X,X,O,L1 ... you press X,X,O,L1 real fast
you DONT press X, wait for that punch to hit, and go for the second X
