So what next?

I'm as excited about MKA as much as the next guy and I love that they're bringing back everyone then afterwards, they're gonna make deaths be real (ie no ressurection), but as happy as I am for this game to exist, I'm starting to realise why they may have decided against it. If this is the "ultimate" MK game, then what about MK8, won't it be the same except slightly better graphics, but a lot less characters? You get games like Tekken Tag Tournament that have had all the charcaters but that game did not have a reak storyline, so I can handle having fewer characters in its successor; Tekken 4. I'm just curious as to what MK has for us next that could possibly top this one. Like if Liu Kang or Shujinko or Scorpion (any hero) has the power tio defeat Onaga, Kahn, Kintaro, Sheeva, Goro and Blaze (who I consider to be powerful in this one), then what chance has the next boss got? I hope that MKA does not spell the end for the MK series, but again I am concerned for MK's future after this simply brilliant game. Your thoughts?

well, i doubt one character will kill all of the enemies himself, it'l be like warring factions, different people kill different enemies. fair enough, when you play you'll be one character taking on everyone, but the story is likely to be very different.
and as for the 'what happens next?'... well, what's stopping another character rise up who is stronger than onaga? and the gameplay? it's a new generation of consoles, a new set of limits. on the PS1/N64 nobody would dream of multiple fighting styles and the weapon combat in MK4 was unbelievably basic. just look how it's progressed. tekken 4 and 5 are a lot more advanced than tekken 2 and 3, as will mk8 be in comparison to this generation's MKs

I think you'll note in Boon's comments that alot of characters will not be making their way into the next MK games. I believe that this game will mark the end of an era. The entire sequence of the Mortal Kombat tournaments, starting with Shang Tsung's first tournament way back when, will come to an end. It won't matter if Liu Kang or Kung Lao or Shujinko become the ultimate fighter and destroy the ultimate evil because they will likely end their saga with this game. The next game may not have a MORE powerful enemy, but the heroes would need to start again from scratch as well so that would not matter. The next MK will be one we have never seen the likes of before, it may even be unrecognizable.

Now I don't know how many of you watch Yu-Gi-Oh! but I'm using it as an example anyway. In Yu-Gi-Oh! GX there is a new band of quickly learning heroes and Yugi and his gang have fallen into the background as legends after besting their toughest foe. They started everything over, but still retained the legacy of yore. That's what I think they will attempt to do with MK #8.

Wrong Forum, this goes in Future MK Games

They will be adding new characters to the list, but I thought that was kinda obvious? They will have pretty much the same story line but with mostly new characters. The only ones that I heard were staying are Sub-Zero and Scorpion.

'Slightly better graphics'? Yeah right. The graphics will be sooo much better. Im guessing the gameplay will look about how Deception's CG's look.

I think one of the shoalin monks at least will survive... Properly Liu. But liu might give up being what he is and go off to Edenia with Kitana... Thus ending his role in MK. But aside from Fujin, Subby and Scorpion I have no more character predictions.

Well except one... I think Sindel might not live and Kitana may end up Queen. But thats part of Liu's story. If that doesn't happen it would be a shame cause I'd like at least one happy ending to MK:Arm to occur even if most are bad.

What I think the new generation will look like? I think it will loose the 'anicent' feel it has had in the background and move on to a more 'futurisic' feel. New threats may arise when MK:Arm has been and gone, with most of the known characters gone. The lackeys are becoming their own masters and the masters are fighting amongst themselves. At least politically in the MK universe things will properly change for sure.

I wouldn't be suprised if out of 60+ characters only 10 at the most lived.

Johnny Cage better live!!! Oh man Imma be pissed if he doesn't.. but I'll stil love MK. Hmm New generation of fighters.. Hey Boon how about Image being one of those new generation fighters. Let's talk business, I'll keep it real. 8)

That isn't what it said though.

It just said all of the story-lines for the current characters will be finished.

And that all characters will make "guest appearances and such" in future MK games. Even if they are secret characters.

I'm confused if I screwed up what you were saying about Yugioh/GX. But it is basically the same principle if I am not mistaken.

Well, this is purely speculative really. I just think that is the only logical continuation of the story considering how much mix-up there is gonna be story-wise with all the returning characters and such.

Remember secret characters don't always have storys. It could just to be a small bonus to pull of in the games.

^Which would be cool.

True, true, but considering Midway's excessive use of plot holes in MK:SM I hope they'll shy away from characters that just plain don't belong *cough*quan-chi in MKII era*cough*

Actually Quanchi does work, except for MK1's story-line. Because Quanchi is who brought the medallion back to Shinnok. Thus it fits. Since of MK3/2 with Shao Kahn and him having those.

No Mokap would have been on that list.

^Why did they even make him? He is worse than Stryker, if you think about it. *Note: I don't hate Stryker*

Now I also want to know what Ermac was doing in MK:D he died a long time ago in some people's storys IIRC. By MK4/Gold Mileena should be dead, as with Baraka due to the whole destruction of his clan things happening. Or Noob finding Smoke in Out-World in MK:D how did he escape the Netther Realm? Or even find the thing leading to Smoke...

Midway needs to clear this up for sure.

Oh the trouble of making 'what if' endings has been brought up again... Boon said in a interview recently (see front of website news linkie to the shack's page... Least I think that was the page) that there will be no more what ifs in future...

That can be good...

That can also be bad.

Not just the endings.

Also the story-profiles of characters/etc.

Like the intro to Sub-Zero in MK:T talking about the secret his brother and him had.

Plus some things sort of are deceptive how it is stated.
