Perhaps THE most underrated game EVER produced by a gaming company (in this case, Shiny). This game, gentleman, is simply one of the BEST games you will ever find in this dread wasteland you call "game market".
Released in 2000, it has gathered excellent critics from various respected gaming sites:
GameSpot Score: 8.6 (great)
IGN SCORE: 9.4 (Amazing)
GamePro Score: 5/5
Etc etc etc...
A hybrid of RPG with RTS, Sacrifice was WAY ahead of its time when it was released, presenting amazing graphics with smooth 3d animations, one of the best voice acting I've ever found, deep history and lots of creativity.
You control a Wizard that can cast various spells and summon many creatures based on which god he chooses to serve at some time or another to desecrate an enemy wizard's source of power: his altar. One of the spells, for example, opens a demonic rift that expels many souls that attack enemy wizards and creatures. Another spell allows you to summon a TORNADO, I mean, A REAL SCALED tornado, not some boring 4 meter-high dust devil... And you can summon more than 50 types of creatures (dragons, netherfiends, gnomes, ents, pterodactyls, and lots more that can't really be described accurately, because they are very weird and original) and over 50 different spells.
The history is about a lone wizard who apparently caused the apocalypse and finds one survivor among the wastelands. He then proceeds to tell him how the world has become dark and blood-stained. He entered that world some time ago, fleeing from his past, and becomes the servant of one (or more, it's your choice) God(s). The Gods are:
Charnel, the God of Strife and Slaughter, who has demons and necromantic powers to offer you (and an hilarious sense of humor, too):
Persephone, the Goddess of Life and Nature, who uses various healing spells and holy wrath to deal with enemies:
James, God of Soil and Rocks:
Stratos, God of Air, Storms and Knowledge:
Pyro, God of Fire and Industry:
Each of the Gods has an unique personality and point of view, so your missions will be variate.
Check this gameplay trailers:
And here is a chapter of the game I recorded (one of my favorites [oh yes, you can deactivate the annoying "your creatures are under attack!" voice in the menu, so don't worry with it]):
And the game is WAY better than in the trailers (and the graphics were WONDERFUL back there in 2000, and even today they impress me).
PLEASE check this game out. I beg you. It IS a masterpiece, and I RARELY say that.
