Nearing a month after launch, What are you feelling of MK's longevity?

I think this game will last for a while. The fighting is fluid and the mechanics are more than solid. They've done away with the filler that imo bogged down the PS2/ xbox games and focused on what mattered, the actual fighting. As long as they continue down this road, this game will last. It already has had a bigger impact than the previous games, so I'm not worried. I'm not a fighting prodigy or anything, but I have had exposure with a lot of fighters and I'm having a lot of fun with this game.

I hope that they do release an UMK9 for when Australia gets an R rating. It would mean that the game can be reclassified and allow more people to play it.

Despite fighting games being my favourite genre as a teenager, i had lost my interest during the last decade. Last fighting game i had bought before MK9, was SF Alpha 3 for the original Playstation. But this one, revived my interest in the genre, plus it's fun as hell and reminds me of the good old days. So, i'll be definitely sticking with MK9, until the next one comes out.

With the online play currently still being less then stellar; the longevity of this title continues to decrease everyday.

The offline is a shit-load of fun.

As for online:

If PSN ever goes back online, I'll get back to you on that. :-(

I agree. Fighting Games really kept my interest for months while I was a teenager, and even moreso when I was younger...MK hit consoles when I was about 10 years old and I would play the living Hell out of those games until the next one came out. But I guess as I got older the monotony of fighting games got boring for me much quicker. I love the fast and furious action of fighters, I enjoyed MK and SF4, but neither game lasted me beyond a month. MK, like I said earlier, I now only play sporadically...once or twice a week for a few hours at a time. Though I blame it primarily on my work schedule (630pm - 330am), the fact is that as much as I LOVE this game, in the end it is still a fighter and its appeal is extremely limited.

Games , normally , have 2 purposes :

- Fun time; or
- Competition value

Some people care only about the 1st point, others, just can have "fun time" being competitive, so, they focus on the 2nd point, in order to have the 1st one.

Most people have interesting in multiple games, of different types, but, due personal choices, end to specialize or have personal preference for one type over another ..... like people who enjoy to play Sport Games or RPG sometimes, but , enjoy to play more hours daily and spend more $$ on first shoot games, for example.

MK 2011 is a good game, there are more than 20 characters, but, it's not everyone who wants, or feel like, being good with all characters, so, they choose to be a specialist on 1 or 2 characters only, or , half-dozen maximum, and playing a lot with them, can make the game overall looks boring along the time, short-time life and without replay value , even more if you have hard time find competition in high level .... can be boring just ripping noobs, winning 100 fights in a row every day, and hardly meeting someone that can give you a "run for the money" ....

For sure. But i must admit, after getting all the Online Achievements and Offline (minus Kung fu is Stronger), it does loose a little steam. But thats what DLC is for. My only issue is the NRS negligence for the ridiculous online bugs, which would stop me from buying any future DLCs in protest. Unless they fix it, it wont last much longer. For example, it crashes and freezes my Xbox in ever 3/5 King of the Hill matches...worst part? When it freezes right before your turn after you just sat and watched 4 or 5 people fight before you.

But yeah, its definitely a game you want to show off to people when they come over.

I persoally love the game and will be playing it religously until Uncharted 3 comes out. Since PSN has been down I haven't been able to play online yet and I think that's where most of the replay value comes from. I have achived the "Ladder Master" and the "Tower Master" trophies and have log in 10 hours with Kabal and will at some point master him and get the first trophy. I have unlocked all of the Krypt and 3 of the 4hidden fighters, I only need to find Jade. Now I just want to replay the Story Line and play online. Plus buy the time PSN is back up I'm going to have an internet connection in my appartment so that I can play at home instead of having to play at My parents house or my wife's parent's house because I know they judge me on how long I play for. Amazing game, the last part of the story kind of sucks IMO.

They gotta release a patch soon for the button config at pause screen. That along with a few others I can see mk9 go solid for a year and hopefully this time next year they will release a mk9 ver.2 like sf4 to ssf4. New stages/ characters and so on. Game is well put compared to its recent mk titles..this to me is mk 5 because after 4 they all sucked.

It depends on if the online gets fixed. One of the reasons why SFIV is so successful is because the online is so smooth. I don't have any friends IRL that are good at MK so online is my only place to get any decent amount of competition. I can only play the game offline or play online and deal with lag for so long.

If the lag gets fixed, and I can partake in smooth KOTH matches, I'll be playing the game for a long time to come.
