Hi, I registered to this forums cause i see they are very popular. I've been doing some research on how to play MKD online for the PS2, I've never played online and I'm so but so amazed at the fact that you can play with someone anytime from other parts of the world instantly, it's just my dream since i got the first MK on my hands, you know it was yours as well.

Well, I still have some doubts about all the things i need and exactly what i have to pay, this is what i have been informed:

1. The ps2 network adapter

2. A high-speed connection, I need to know if you can play the game with a 64kbps cable connection, or you have to have the 256kbps one?

3. I've heard something of an ethernet cable or something, and a multi port hub for the comp and the ps2 at the same time, where can i get this and how much does it cost?

4. The other thing is, do i need to pay monthly for a subscription or is it just free like some other games with just buying the network adapter? If I have to pay then I think I can't play it, I'm willing to give out all my money to play the game but i can't have a credit card, so please guys answer this.

Please reply soon! :?

I'm not sure how much data is needed to be sent and received, but I'm pretty sure that a 256k connection would be just fine. I really think that latency is the real issue for online play. If you can play other games online from your PC, then I would guess MK would be fine.

If you are connecting your computer directly to your cable modem, then you will need a router. You can pick up a 4-port router that provides internet connectivity to 4 devices, like your PC and your PS2, for less than $40 and sometimes less then $30 at any electronics/computer or office supply store. Just get the cheapest you can find. Plus you will need ethernet cables to connect everything. 1 for your router to the cable modem, 1 from your pc to the router, and 1 from your PS2 to your router.

PlayStation Online games are free, with exception to a few MMORPG's like Phantasy Star Online, etc.

Wow, a better reply couldn't have been posted, thx for all this info. I'm so happy to hear that I don't need a credit card.

Well so now I'll have to get:

1. $40 - Network Adapter

2. $60 - MKD Premium Pack

3. $50 - The best offer from my local cable company for a 256kbps, including modem, installation, and first month free, BTW, does any other person knows for sure if you can play it smoothly with a 64kbps cable modem?

4. $25 - A cheap router and two ethernet cables, router/comp and router/ps2, right? I don't really think this is obligatory, just an item to make it more "professional" lol, but I'll be getting one.

That's it right? So a total of $175 to get me playing, ouch! Well, I hope I can buy it. Thx and please clear the connection speed doubt.

ok so i am useing DSL and if u have that all u need to get is another DSL modem and then u will be set u dont need to buy all those stuff but if u do have DSL i will tell u how to set it up
and also the speed is awsome and there is never disconnections from the DSL and its only
about 40 per month and u also get the internet service for ur computer with it :D

Actually i've decided I'm getting DSL cause I can't get cable for some personal reasons.

But I think I have everything I need on list:

1. MKD Premium Pack - $60
2. Network Adapter - $40
3. DSL Account 128/64 - $25
4. Router - $15

About how to set up the account I think i know:

I called my DSL company and they said to me all the info about the DSL account, they'll send to me the modem and I'll pay through the phone bill. Plus all I have to do is plug the ethernet cable into the network adapter, until I have a router.

Am I right?

As long as you adapt the directions on how to login using the instructions the DSL company gave you for your PC. It should be pretty straight forward with the PS2 setup disc. When you get the router, you'll enter that login information into the router's setup area and then I'm sure you can just setup your PS2 adapter to DHCP to get an IP from the router.

128/64 is pretty slow compared to most DSL packages offered by Telcos. I just hope that the latency is low enough.

Thx, but do you think I won't be able to play well? There seems no one here has used the connection I'm going to and I haven't heard a real answer from a person that has experienced a 128/64 dsl connection... :?

LOOOL :D

i'm playing PS2 online since the beginning here in Europe.

All u really have to do, is get an internet account, ethernet cable, switch and network adapter...

connect the stuff and follow the instructions on screen... :D

that's what i did...

hi, i think i found the answer, on the official playstation forums, someone said the upload speed is more important and 128kbs is recommended, soooo i think you should try and get a package that has 128kbs upload speed so you have a better experience online aswell as having more people challenging you, as you will have (technically) less ping. Hope that helps.

Nice, thx for the info, so now I think I know everything I needed to know, now just to get the money :D. I'm hoping to buy tomorrow the game at least.
