How to get better?

The title says it all. Are there any tips, available resources, etc. out yet to improve one's skill in the game? This is my first fighter IN A LONG time, and I absolutely love it, but i'm also finding myself facing some tough adversity whenever the difficult goes above medium. That said, I'm also nervous at the moment to hit up multi-player because i'm sure i'll get destroyed. For instance, I know i'm not blocking well enough right now. But that's basically it. I'm sure it'll take a week or so to actually build a foundation, but if anyone can elucidate on anything, or add links to valuable resources as they become available, it'd be much appreciated!

It may not be something you want to hear, but the only valid answer would be Practice, Practice & Practice. Keep playing the game beyond your skill point. You will eventually adapt and learn.

Just practice, and did you go through the tutorial? May help a little. Even in practice mode, you can change the AI settings to a drone, you can fight, so that could possibly help. Guess also, when in close, try for a throw maybe. And what characters are you using?

Yep training is really your best bet
playing online help too and even playing arcade on hard or expert
shows some strategy and combos too

someone posted a video here before of someone with sub zero showing how to do combos. it was really good, made me learn alot

Thanks all. I'll be sure to keep a look out on videos posted, especially as people start to making them with commentary for youtube. I'll definitely keep on practicing and doing so on difficulties above the medium spot.

The only character i've played with so far has been Saibot, but it's a matter of time before I start using other characters.

Choose a single character and stick with it. Just keep playing as that character until you feel you are comfortable enough to try out a new character. If you can't choose a character, Story Mode is a great way to figure out who you like. If you start getting hammered online, see what your doing wrong. You might be relying too much on a single move/combo. If you see your opponent is blocking most of your basic attacks, try a grapple to get through the block. If your opponent is teleporting alot and attacking you from behind, wait for him to teleport and block before he can land a hit. He'll be stunned and open for a nice combo.

It depends what you want to get better at.

Remember, computer opponents are programmed a certain way. You will eventually learn their weaknesses and what works agains them.

Obviously, what works against computer opponents will not work against human components. I'm sure in the upcoming days and weeks, strategies for beating the computer will start to emerge and be placed in FAQs and other locations.

As for human opponents, the best thing to do is play against a bunch of people. Watch how people counter your and learn from them. Of course, the reverse is also true....what works against human opponents will not work against computer opponents because computer opponents always cheat.

1. Pick a Character (I'll choose Scorpion)
2. Figure out a combo by stringing together normal and special attacks (I do Back+Y, Spear, Forward+Y, X, B) there's probably a better one but yeah. (Only does about 15-20% if I remember correctly)
3. Practice using that combo and the timing.
4. Find more combos and use those too
5.????

If you want to get better in the game, you have to be familiar with the special moves, and the dial a combos of every character.(Or maybe a few if you are not planning to master them all.) Once you are able to use the special moves and the dial a combos of a certain character proficiently, try to mix it up by chaining your combos and specials. Learn and master the basics(Special moves and listed combos) first. From then on, go wild.

Get Scorpion and do the following after your opponent whiffs or is recovering.

Pop up, jump kick, teleport punch, harpoon, damaging combo of your choice. Repeat.

You might be able to get a few extra hits in between, not sure I've only played the demo.

Anyone wanna work on some Hand to Hand combat (I got all my skills master'd , just want to work on my ground combo's) Msg me on 360 > Mupination

Hahahahahaha love the South Park reference

Well I understand the combo stuff a lot better after tinkering and watching videos.

I am curious though, for anyone who sees this, do you guys use the analog-joystick or the dpad? I've been using the joystick this entire time, but i've also noticed that a few gamers use their dpads. Pros/Cons?

The reason I ask, for instance, I botch L.Kang's bicycle kick all the time if I use the analog-joystick, but not the case otherwise. Then again, I sometimes feel I can pull off some combos faster with the analog-joystick.
