Smoke, CSZ, Kabal and dead Skryker are all dead. They are in the Nether Realm aka MK hell. We will just have wait and see who comes back but they never seem to come back from the Nether Realm the same.

Maybe in next game, despite they being Quan Chi's brainless slaves, maybe Raiden can find a way to convert them back to human form, and, make them remember their memories .... and so, we have all the good guys again alive. MK NRS team , if put effort, can find a way to bring all or some characters back , in a non-lame way, I guess ..... let's see.

Bi Han, Kuai Liang, Noob Saibot and Cyber Sub-Zero all gone in one story. Disappointing. Would have liked to seen Bi Han/Noob Saibot do something effective.

I'm 100% positive that Jax, Jade, Smoke, Nightwolf and Kitana are dead. The other characters, however, I'm not certain about.
Stryker - He got an epic punch to the face, we don't know how life-threatening the blow was.
Kabal - Got stomped in the chest by Sindel, could just be some broken ribs.
Cyber Sub-Zero - Oh please, he took 3 hits and people think he died? I'm 90% sure he'll be okay.
Sonya - One boot to the face and she's crying for Raiden -_- Still alive.
Johnny Cage - It looked like he was dead on the ground but we all know from story spoilers that he's still alive.

I could be wrong and they could confirm the deaths of Stryker/Kabal/CSZ by the other characters in the other storyline clips, so I'm just gonna check them out.

 
Retelling the stories of MK1-MK3 in a story mode was guaranteed for failure if it wasn't given the right direction and what do you know? The proof is in the pudding. NRS should have stuck to arcade ladder endings then pick and chose which ones they wanted to apply in inevitable and untitled MK10. You kill well over half of a popular roster (most of which are in a single scene!) to what introduce another round of unlikable knock-off characters? Pft. Way to secure the title from not being the "9.5/10-9.8/10" it should have been.

I'm just whipping through story mode on Tuesday and pretending it didn't happen so I can enjoy the kickass stages, models, gameplay, and fatalities to their fullest.

I think Smoke's death is bull, couldn't have
a. teleported away
b. reformed
I really think all NRS did was kill everyone so the fans would be shocked but its a pretty weak way to take out ppl
Kabal and CyberZero can survive more than that as well only Jade, Jax, and Smoke have plausible deaths oh yeah and Kitana.
Im pissed they made a lot of characters go out in a weak way.
 
Exactly. Logically if Smoke has mastered the element, why couldn't he teleport from her grasp? How was Cyber Sub-Zero killed from being tossed away? Kabal? Maybe if her heel punctured his heart. Stryker? Only if she punched his nose in, it could have caused trauma to the brain and made him hemorrhage but the only sensible kills were Jax, Jade, and Kitana. The total kill count was all for Shock Value. Not exactly a very wise shock value either considering Sindel is killed only minutes later simultaneous with Nightwolf.
