Good with computers? Help me.

Say, guys. Is jumping from 512 MB Ram to 2 GB Ram good? Better performance?

Well i'm not that good at computers but im pretty sure the more ram oypu have the better the performance will be. And you got something like 2gb. I only have 700 mb. So yea thats good

There will be a noticeable jump in performance, especially gaming and even some in web performance with a jump like that.

Just make sure that what you are buying is compatible with your mother board (pins and speed). You'll need to pull out the user manual or go online to see a list of what speeds will work.

Also, a lot of mobos won't take mixed speed ram. It will pick the higher of the two and just run that one, so don't bother leaving the 500 stick in if it isn't the same speed (i.e. pc3300) as what you are picking up.

Mine is currently 2Gb, and although I don't really play games on my PC, I can tell you it runs Doom 3 and Sims 2 on full quality with no lag, and loads them up almost instantly.

I having a real hard time getting HL2 to work. It keeps crashing like after 3-30 mins of play. I've tried everything except overclocking because my BIOS can't change the CPU speed (not updated)

Sorry for the double post, but would the 2 gigs make the start up of my computer faster? It would take like 5 minutes for everything to load when I first turn on my computer.

if that the case, that means you'll either needs to change some configs around to better serve you new ram, or you'll need a better grapcard, ram means nothing without a good quality grapcard. 256 mb will not do for hl2. in fact its an insult to hl2. i demand that you buy a better grapcard now! and 512 mb ram is just no good so it'll definately help you out that you got a 2gig.
