hiii guys

For how long you think you can keep playing mortal kombat?? hours?? weeks?? months?? years??

as for my previuos fighting games:

- street fighter 4 ( 2 weeks ) then left it forever, it was ugly and lack of content

- soul calibur 4 ( 2 weeks maybe ) then left it forever because unbalanced ,button masher and got that feeling of unfinished product.

- tekken 6 ( 3 months ) then i bored due to unbalanced gameplay, but i kept back to it from time to time because of beautiful graphics

- virtua fighter 5 ( 5 years .... and its keep going ) balanced gameplay with content to be unlocked, consider it my best fighting game of all time.

now.. for mortal kombat i can say i could keep playing it for over a year, it seems got what it need to be a good fighter. the demo looks balance, beautiful and you can see there is alot content to be busy for a long time + DLC coming.

is it finally the best fighting game to come after my own favourate VF5??? soon i will know :)

- Street Fighter 4(About 3 months) The metagame was too campy and defensive based for my taste on a fighting game, I didn't dig it

-Super Street Fighter 4 (Still play it to this day) It's a solid, balanced, very good fighter. Enjoy watching streams and tournys but not going to tournys for it because its not my forte even though I like it. I don't devote too much time to mastering it even though I know everything about it at a pro level.

- Soul Calibur 4 (Until Tekken6 came out) It was amazing at the start. I solidified my place in the top 70 on Xboxlive leaderboards and I kept getting better and better as time went on. When Tekken came out I lost interest.

- Tekken 6 (Still ALOT ALOT ALOT to this day) Amazingly balanced, amazing gameplay, amazing everything. I regularly frequent tournaments and regularly play online. Love this game with a passion and will play it until Tekken Tag Tournament 2 comes out. At my peak I was in the #1 slot for both PS3 and Xbox360 with my character and 17th best overall on Xbox360.

- Virtua Fighter 5 (2 weeks) Didn't catch my interest. Just wasn't my style. And its widely unpopular here in the states. Tournaments and a competitive scene for this game don't exist in the US. Sad but true.

-BlazBlue (1 month) Didn't dig it. I understand the gameplay and respect it, but just don't dig it. It has a widely popular tournament scene still though so it'll live on.

-Marvel vs Capcom 3 (Still playing it) It just came out though.

-Super Smash Bros Melee (On and off for about 5 years) Solid fighter, super balanced, still has a tournament scene.

-Super Smash Bros Brawl (5 months) Very ridiculously unbalanced, a step down from SSBM, horrible campy tournament play. Just generally very ew game imo.

As for MK9, I hope its good enough to stay strong in the tournament scene until MK10. It just depends on how the tournament scene accepts it, which so far they're accepting it with open arms. It's just down to the balancing of the game now.... crossing my fingers.

And aquamah, I'm not trying to sound condescending or anything, but Tekken6 is one of the most balanced fighters in the last decade. The only characters deemed "unplayable" in a competitive setting are Zafina and Mokujin. Everyone else is solid enough to win. The tier list even shows that like 75% of the cast is amazing. There's a reason why over here in the US the most popular fighter is SF, but in ALL of Asia the most popular fighter is Tekken.

As for Soul Calibur4, ever since Soul Calibur3 the SC games have been unbalanced. In SC4 it's Hilde(who was my main character). It's gone as far as to have her banned in some major tournaments. Now in days shes tournament legal again, but stage selection is ridiculous because of her now. It is an unbalanced game, but not by too much.

Im going to have to check out Tekken never played it in my life im honestly an MK and Virtua Fighter only type of person

Hard to tell , maybe 2 hours per day during this year (2011) .... but , any game after 1 year of constant gameplay, takes the risk to get boring, if you don't play others games ..... I'm sure even this beloved MK 2011 , will need a "break time" sometimes .... we'll see.

The Tekken scene in the US is calling MK9 "A 2D Tekken". The pressure and canned-combo system and dashing system, work EXACTLY like Tekken. It's going to be an easy transition for us.

Tekken gets a little bit of getting use to unlike a game like Street Fighter, but its so much more deep, fun, and just plain amazing if you start taking it seriously and learn all the matchups/punishments and junk.

i think MK9 will be played for a long time in my household, especially when i have competitive friends & family members to play against.. and MK is my favorite fighter, so ill definitely still be playing it when everyone is into a new CoD or GoW

How would you compare it to Virtua Fighter? I see your not a big fan of it but in terms of gameplay is there any simularities there as well besides MK

i will be playing mk9 for 1 or 2 years i think the best mortal kombat that i most played has MK:SM i played it for 3 years but also playing other games i was like Monday Mk:SM Tuesday MK:SM :Wednessday:Thursday other game Friday :Mk:SM Saturday: 7 hours of Mk:SM and 2:hours for another game Sunday:6 hour for MK:SM and 3 hours for another game i think it will be the same with MK9 .i will be like 8 hours with MK9 and 2 with socom 4

I'll play till the next Mortal Kombat comes out...I've been playing Deception and the classic trilogy for years. Can't get a hold of MK4 with the consoles I have =(

Well, just like in Tekken(and like this MK for some character) the common fastest move for each character is their standing jab and their crouching jab. The standing jab also keeps you at a slight advantage if your opponent blocks so its a good pressure tool to setup or trick your opponent. But the standing jab could be ducked under with tons of moves and can be sidestepped if seen coming. The crouching jab is THE best interruption move in both Tekken and VF. It hits high and low guard and is fast. It's the go-to move if you see your opponent is going to keep attacking your guard. But.... also, in both games if they predict that its coming you could get hopkicked right in the face because you jump over their crouch punch, and hopkick = juggle for both games.

They also have canned combos. The last hit of a 3hit canned combo(built in combo on the command list) for example is usually unsafe on block(if blocked you get a for sure attack on them) but has a weird property to it like it being an "overhead". But the 2nd hit of the canned combo is safe on block. So you could trick them with this to setup into slower moves or trick your opponent a dozen different ways. This is exactly like how it is in MK.

Some canned combos end in frame advantage on block, some end in lows. Yada yada.
The way I compare the game to people who play SF competitively is simple. In your mind, replace jumping with the sidestepping(dodge moves with it). And know that almost 90% of all lows in Tekken and VF that don't knock down are considered dangerous moves to use because even if they hit, the person that used the low is still at the disadvantage so you HAVE to back away or block afterwards. It's why you don't see people throwing out low pokes like crazy like in SF. In MK all it looks like all poke lows will be just as bad as they are in Tekken and VF. Sweeps will be good though.

In both games there are some characters based on getting knockdowns and predicting which way the opponent will roll/get off the ground/attack off the ground ect. Some characters are based on evasion, some characters are based on being ULTRA dangerous if there are walls on the stage, some are based on tricky 50/50 mixups with lows and mids., yada yada

I could go into why movement is so important in both games and why being against a wall opens up a ton more mixups for the person pinning the guy against the wall and how important it is tricking your opponent back into a mixup while they are trying to get off the ground.... but I won't

Um... I wrote alot....
Yea, basically those are some core similarities between VF and Tekken. All the characters could do different things so I can't really go into much more detail than that. Hope you understood this.

Depends how good the game is.

If it sucks, I wont be playing it for long, that's for sure. If it's good, I will probably play it to death the first week or two and then play it on and off for months.

Haha, wow. I thought me and my friends were the only people left playing Melee. I picked up Brawl for awhile and it's still fun, just much more unbalanced, like you said. I also agree about SF, I just can't get behind it. I haven't ever played the others, since I'm not a big fighting game player.

As for MK9, I plan on playing it until my thumbs bleed. I still play almost ever Mortal Kombat and I doubt this one will be any different.
