Customization was apprent in trailer, how did we miss?

spader

BANALITY
Upon my 4th watch I noticed, scorpion starts off with NO swords on his back....and his fists are glowing....

later we see him again, and he has his 2 swords on his back, and his fists are no longer glowing

again we see him, and this time he has no swords or glowing hands, just a glowing skull attached to his belt, which he used to summon the demon to hold SZ in place....Any one else notice this?

Subzero, also....But all I can notice is his mask, later on down the track he has a mask that looks exactly like the mk9 mask only its glowing? hmmm Actually, layer on you see him sporting a glowing medallion on the other side of his chest where the lin kue emblem is....

More than different versions Im thinking we get to choose a couple of items/powers for each character before a match. For example for Scorpion you may get to choose between swords, skull-belt buckle, fiery hands etc which may in turns lead to different movesets, combos, extra/enhanced specials etc. The same perhaps with others too, like for Subz, his ice mask, icy hands etc being his items/powers

I like this idea. It shouldn't be so much as to the costume, but depending on the style/stance you pick, determines special moves set and costume!

One con of having choosable items before the match starts is all the characters known specials being split among them. Of course, new ones would also be added to balance it out, like Scorpion's fireball for example. Thus Sub-Zero's ice parry we saw may be a move that we get only if we choose his ice gloves, being a defensive sort of style and would be unavailable for his other items. All in all it is a very unique and interesting concept if it is in fact like that, can't wait to see how it plays out. I just hope they don't use these variations to limit the roster size. Im expecting atleast 5 characters more than what MK9 had to offer.

That's actually a really keen observation. I had to watch it again to notice but when I did I think you're right. Each change probably represents the different fight style. Every time it switches back to Scorpion v Sub Zero, they use a different play style. In the first, both use projectiles, the second time they both use hand-held weapons, and in the third I couldn't really tell but from what I could make of it it looked like grappling. I think it may have been the same with the two new characters too.

EDIT: I watched it again and if customizations are a thing (swords equipped vs without) then that might lead to variation-specific fatalities as well! This is getting interesting...
