Assistance with creating combos

I've been playing the game since release and I'm still using the combos in the moveset rather than creating my own. To elaborate, in the character trailers and AI vs. AI fights, you see characters link special moves seamlessly in their combos (ie Mileena lands a three-hit combo before launching her opponent and hitting a Sai blast and the game recognizes it all as one combo) while my combo work is literally the combos displayed in the moveset (ie square, triangle, square). I've tried incorporating special moves into combos and coming up with my own combos but for whatever reason it doesn't work. Any advice for creating my own combos/techniques?

I completely feel you on this it's something you gotta get the hang of. But if I was you do what I do. Look for starting strings. Then strings that can send em airborne. Then combo enders and X-rays :) that's what I do lol. Let's say Sonya for example.
I find that her b2 1 f2 send em airborne but they spin to much afterwards so I njp then cartwheel dash 1 1 bf4. My combo simple but all mine lol decent damage too. If you need help making combos for any character let me know I can help :)

THIS. When I got Rain, I sat with a pen and paper and wrote down all the launcher combos (that send them airborne), all the launcher specials (that send them airborne), all the combo strings in the move list and all the specials. A high damaging/juggling combo should start with a launcher (which most characters have 1 or 2 of), followed by a normal combo string and then a special.

But when I first started the game, I got some high damaging combos from online and learnt the hardest ones. From there you can break down the long combo and start making your own.

Either way, if your looking for help with specific combos or characters, check the character threads at the top of the forum, you might find a lot of information in those that you didn't know before, I know I did.
 
Critical bits is the best choice IMO. Shows video and combo inputs, very simple to use. At first I was clueless at creating combos, now im more experienced thanks to those videos.
 
Learning the timing when to do a special within a string and not being button-mashy (look at your inputs in practice) is key I think
 
Thanks very much for the assistance, gang. The Critical Bits vids have substantially improved my skills with Noob. Also displaying inputs in combo mode showed all kinds of mistakes I was making without realizing it. Really appreciate the assistance :hail:
