A new tournament between 2 realms that AREN'T Outworld and Earthrealm, not to say that either would have a dog in this fight but the conflict between Earth and the forces of Outworld is in all honesty getting kind of stale. What about, lets say a tournament between Seido and Chaosrealm or Edenia VS. the Netherrealm. The tournaments were established by the Elder Gods to prevent the merger of realms and keep the One Being at bay, this shouldn't be exclusive to just Outworld V. Earthrealm. But as I said earlier, alliances can be forged, Raiden can send his heroes to aide which ever side whom his cause would benefit from.
This, I think, would be a good excuse to expand on the lore of the series and introduce new characters, new factions and more mythology without taking a dump all over everything that we've already got.
