guest for tag online cant use dlc?

Why cant the 2nd player playing as guest on online tag choose dlc characters?
is there a way around this?

I'm sure your opponent just didn't have the compatibility packs.

nah, i was able to choose them, but my friend cant, same goes for alt costumes

For some reason on ps3 the guest is considered a new account who hasn't unlocked (alt costumes) or DLC. I have to switch controllers when my friend wants a specific costume.
