Mortal Kombat 1 General Discussion Media Thread

Yeah, thinking about it more, I was having a similar conversation with a buddy who also loves MK.

I pointed out how (imo) it seems like these skins were meant to go with potential DLC characters that got cancelled..............

- Menagerie skins = 3D era / MKX era skins for Kitana, Mileena and Tanya, which look like they could have gone with JADE (intro voice files removed)

- Outworld Gala = skins that could have gone with just about ANY DLC character.

- MKX Sub-Zero and MKX Scorpion skins = skins that could have come with CASSIE CAGE (intro voice files removed) and kameo KUNG JIN (likely cancelled).

It DOES indeed seem like the end of content for the game. I could easily see them drag it out until the movie comes out and drop those 4 remaining skins. Hell, at this point I could even see them dragging out the announcement of the final version of the game for when Season 8 of Invasion repeats again back to Season 1 (Scorpion) to be like...... "Thank you for playing. Here's MK1: XL/ Ultra / Super/ Komplete/ Finito"
Yep. My bet is on this. That's the usual play. Take that tiny remnant of content and stretch it out to absurdity, while having people hang on a empty hope. Typical corporate.

I can already see the same people who were drooling and screaming before MK1 launch "OMG this is looking to be the best MK EVER!" to start playing nihilistic side "Tch. Yeah, typical WB/NRS behavior. They always do it."... and then next time proceed to go through the same process. Though in this instance I believe a large chunk of people are now in the same stage, as I was during MKX end and MK11 launch. Full blown skepticism. People will be much more careful. Sure, there will be still idiots who will be pre-ordering the game, the moment the button appears, but MK can forget of having the same type of hype as they had it in in the past.

They would have to bring SF6 levels of content to get people excited, but you, I and a lot of people by now, do know that NRS ain't doing shit like that.

Yeah, stretching it out until the movie comes out with those 4 movie skins seems like the most possible scenario.
Btw, it's funny as fuck to me that the MK2 movie version of Shao Kahn is more accurate and more menacing than whatever that version is, in the game. (That's a discussion for another time, though.)
I actually did the math and if each Season is 60 days long (as of now) then that means that in 240 days by around mid-November / November 21st (after the movie releases in October) would be the point where the Shang Tsung season (7) ends and the Liu Kang Season (8) repeats again.
Just in time for them to make the announcement of the new final version right before the holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas), and to give people enough time to get that final version of the game before starting again at Season 1 (Scorpion).

MK1 is definitely the last game that I pre-order, even though I got the basic version, but I pride myself that with MS rewards I only paid $19 for the 3 MK characters that I wanted from KP1 and the 5 kameos. Madam Bo came out "free" for me as well.
The whole 50% guest character DLC bullshit, shitty constant mtx practices, paid seasonal Fatalities and balancing nightmare (finally got it right with the Ermac patch) were the final straw, for me.

Gaming, in general, has been dying a slow and steady death for me more recently just because of the way things are these days, truth be told.
I'm waiting to see if we ever get more news on the Blade game that Arkane Lyon is doing, and then maaaaaaaybe after that if I'm lucky I'll get a Dishonored 3 some time down the line. Some of the former Arkane Austin studio members are working at the ex-Dishonored co-creator's more recent studio (Wolfeye) and they're making a game with Fallout, Dishonored and Prey elements, so I may check that out instead whenever that comes out if a "Dishonored 3" never ends up materializing. Then after this generation of consoles I'll probably be done with gaming entirely.

Don't lose hope, brother. I sense a great change is coming to gaming.

It would be great if it's a good change, but there's just so much weird shit in the industry now that I have very little faith / hope left when it comes to gaming.

- Nintendo wants $450 for the Switch 2, which is an automatic "fuuuuuuuck yoooooou" from me to them and in the tone of the utmost guttural death metal growl that I can muster with heavy guitar riffs and double bass drum pedal hits in the background.
It's not that I can't get it, but rather the principle of jacking up the fucking prices because Sony and Xbox also jack up prices, too.🖕
And speaking of the other 2 that are jacking up prices on shit.......

- PS5 keeps going, yeah we got some other exclusives..........just hold on a little while longer and well have them out...........any minute now...........(waits until 2065 and dies from waiting like The End in Metal Gear Solid 3). They're essentially the Limited Run Games of first party developed games now. "Oh you want a game? Oh sure, it should be out in 1, 2, 5, 13 or 20 years" Who the fuck knows? Where the fuck is this overhyped goddamn Wolverine game from 3 years ago?🤷‍♂️

- Xbox is essentially 3rd party now and doesn't know where the fuck its identity is at, and unless they add an Epic store and / or Steam store to their next device I don't see them surviving the next console generation. Because, why the fuck buy an Xbox when just about everything from them is either coming out on PC or PS5 anyways. Welp, there goes my Series console investment.🤮

Like, I wish that I could feel more optimistic about gaming (in general), but between NRS / WB not knowing what the fuck to do with MK and mtx gouging left and right in MK1 and the BIG 3 making all of these shit decisions......it's really fucking easy sometimes to just be like "fuck it, no more."

I see AAA crash for sure. Indies on other hand will get the people, that don't wanna spend 90-100$ for games. Simple market readjustment. I believe creativity will blossom again.

Honestly, for me, aside from MK1 and the games that I have bought at this point, it's just GamePass at the moment until the end of December.
(I got the codes from a key site a while back and it came out to like $6 a month.)
I'm also not gonna spend $90+ on a game. I COULD but I WON'T, just out of principle. Fuck that noise, and fuck every dev / publisher that wants to charge that much per game. Nintendo games usually don't go on sale, but games in other places like Steam, Epic, Sony and MS usually DO, so there's also that I guess.

Speaking of, with a little one, I'm also just also not spending as much time gaming.
Like maybe when he's older if he wants one then I'll get a console for him down the line, but I'm also debating whether or not I even want to even bother upping my subscription when it ends in December. 🤷‍♂️
