DLC characters

I think it's kinda obvious that all the characters that died in MK9 are going to be DLC this time around. WB gotta get them cash registers ringin'.

Sorry i just don't see Jax gathering the dollar dollar bills....
The only character i see them doing that for is Kung lao...and that would just be for fan service not $

Anyway lets change topic and discuss the possibilities of "likely" DLC...
Also remember DLC won't just be characters for MKX

Kung Lao,Kitana,Cyrax/Sektor

I'd say Kitana and Kung Lao.

For characters, I'd imagine Li Mei and Nitara being DLC too.

Tanya needs to be in the main roster though other wise she needs to be DLC.

DLC is about making extra money, so NRS is probably going to focus on releasing high-demand MK9 characters that missed MKX's roster at launch, since new characters or revamped 3D-era characters don't have nearly as much of a following.

Kitana, Mileena, Reptile, Ermac, Smoke, Noob, Cyrax, Sektor, Baraka, Jax and Kung Lao have the biggest chances, I think, assuming they are not on the main roster.

I have much less hope for Skarlet, Kenshi, Rain, Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Jade, Stryker, Kabal, Sindel and Sheeva.

Jade and/or Tanya better be in somehow!!! At least one of them!!!

Nobody is going to pay for a character they've already had the chance to play as. It isn't like they've been missing for generations, they were playable in the last installment.

We'll probably be getting characters like Tremor, Guests and new faces.

I believe the casual audience acts primarily on familiarity, hence why Scorpion and Sub-Zero are included in every game. New faces will sell, but MK9 returnees will sell more; I'd bet money on that outcome.

Familiar faces from the PS2 gen of MK games.

Guys like Havik, Reiko and Tanya are the only ones I can see as returning characters for DLC.

There's just no way the dlc will focus on dead MK9 characters. Boon was going on about doing something new for DLC. Besides, most of the dead MK9 characters wouldn't do well as DLC anyway.

I think the DLC characters should be characters that are known but have never really had a chance to shine; like Tremor, Kia/Jaakata etc. But of course some classics as well!

So, you're suggesting that characters like Kitana, Jade, Liu Kang, Smoke, Kabal, Kung Lao and Shang Tsung wouldn't sell well as DLC???
Those a FAR more popular than Rain ever was, and probably would make more money as DLC than Rain ever could, and this coming from a HUGE Rain fan and someone who largely wanted him on the main MK9 roster.

I agree with you that characters like Sindel, Stryker and CSZ wouldn't be big DLC money-makers, though.

The new characters will likely be on the main roster, with DLC likely consisting of MK9 characters who didn't make the cut, post-MK3 fan favorites that didn't make the cut and a couple of guests.
Characters like Fujin, Havik, Tanya feel like they'd be on the main roster.
They're too popular to just be relegated to DLC.

It makes the most sense for NRS to put all the new characters on the main roster, rather than risk making less money on DLC with new faces.
When it comes to DLC, popularity sells in fighting games, and both Freddy and Scorpion are proof of that.

Rain was a popular DLC character because he was excluded from the main roster, which many fans were angered by. Despite what some people think, Rain is actually a relatively popular character and is constantly being asked for.

Kitana and Jade would be well received as DLC, sure... But no one will be blown away by it. It's nothing fresh or new. They may be popular characters, but I think you would find that as DLC, they wouldn't do so well.

Smoke and Kung Lao are the two I could see being a big deal as DLC. Kung Lao because he has a heavy fan following (for whatever reason) and Smoke (especially if he's a cyborg) is a popular character who still has a lot of uncharted territory to discover. He's only been in a few games, and MK9 was pretty much the first time we got to look into his story as a non cyborg. There's a lot they can still do with him and I think (if done right), people would be eager to have him in MKX.

Shang Tsung would be a disaster. He's not appealing enough to make it as DLC and a lot of people have expressed that they want him to stay dead (even if only for a little while).

If NRS were smart, they'd stick to characters like Tremor... The obscure "nobodies" that still have a fan following of sorts. Or they could go with some of the more acceptable 3D era characters that didn't make the cut. And I hope to God we get at least one or two new characters for DLC, or even rumor/joke based characters.

DLC is a good chance to pull out some of the less tired or even untouched characters and make them a big deal.

Many people would argue that Rain was an obscure character, going by MK9 DLC sales.
Freddy and Kenshi were the highest sold, IIRC.

The other characters that I mentioned would sell a lot better as DLC than obscure nobodies, which is my point.
NRS makes games, but at the end of the day they're also a business.
They're not in the business to put obscure nobodies as DLC, and lose money.
Tremor would be a character that I would love to see, but he's not as popular as the other MK characters that I mentioned, and likely wouldn't make NRS that much money.
The point of DLC is to make money, and making money means selling the characters that they think the fans (not just the small hardcore bunch) will buy.
Obscure characters will not make as much money for them as the popular characters.
Hence, why they added Freddy in MK9 and Scorpion in Injustice.
Everyone knows who he is and he's 1 of the most (if not THE most) popular horror icon of all time.
Everyone knows Scorpion from MK, and he's their mascot.
Instant $$$$.

The main roster would be a better place to let those lesser known MK characters and NEW characters shine in MKX because (A) every game sold is guaranteed to have those characters on the main roster, giving them better exposure to everyone even in the arcade ladder and (B) more popular characters selling as DLC = more $$$.

I can see MKX getting six DLC fighters similar what Injustice did. I can see maybe one or two dead fighters coming back as DLC, but not the whole dead cast.

I think i am the only person who was pissed off as a kid when i got my hands on MK3 and smoke was a robot. I wanted to be human smoke i was so happy that they let him be human in mk9 lol.
I don't think Tanya will be DLC. this is where she was introduced in the the last time line so hopefully it will remain the same in this one. Tanya Fujin Reiko & kai should not be DLC they should be in the game off top. unless they make a new move set for Jerik (spelling) Kano is going to snuff his chances.
I really do want more post mk3 characters in because i feel like some of those characters didn't get a chance to be anything better. That PS2/xbox era of MK was weird and i believe that the game play mechanics of those games made many of the likable characters awful. characters like Tremor (even tho I don't want him in at all.) Those three girls from MKM i think sareena was one of them i forget their names. Frost and Even Hornbuckle (I know.) would probably Qualify for DLC simply because these are popular characters that never got in or was only in for a short period of time.

I'm calling it now.

DLC is going to be

1. Tremor
2. Guest
3. New character
4. Returning 3D era character
5. New character
6. Guest
