MKX roster and Arcade Ladder structure

Greetings, true believers! We all know that the MKX story will span for 25 years. That brings a lot of questions on how the game will be structured. Will the roster be filled with characters from different moments in time? But then how will the ladder work? Will they fight a boss that didn't exist in their time? And how about their endings?
Maybe there will be a choose your destiny with different ladders from differents time?

Personally, this narrative disconnect wouldn't bother me,but it may bother a lot of people,so I'm making this thread to see if we can get to some solution.

This is going way too in depth. Ladder mode is ladder mode, you pick a character, fight the randomly assigned opponents/bosses that are on the ladder and watch the ending.

that's actually a very accurate description, i can't see how anyone views it any differently then how you just explained tbh.

Was I the only one who came to this thread hoping it would be a discussion on the design of the ladder mode itself... I felt the MK9 ladder looked too clean cut, I'd like a variation of the giant old pillars to come back, i miss that ancient look it had.

If you can rip off the head of Cyber Sub-Zero with Sub-Zero in MKKE and basically commit suicide that way then why not? I don't mind a good story mode but I'm a ladder junkie and we'll have at least 74 variations to choose from. So ladder should be real fun in MKX. I'm curious whether the bosses has 3 variations or not.

Agreed with Taj Gill.
This is over-thinking things.

As Taj said, the ladder will probably pre-select random characters, and to add to that it will also likely pre-select random variations.
Yes, the roster will likely be filled with characters from different moments in time, just like MK9 was.
This is the reason why a young Johnny Cage or a young Sonya fighting VS Cassie would be possible (IMO).
Even if those 2 get killed off or turn 50 years old in the story, the story mode characters in MK9 that also got killed off were still playable in ladder / arcade mode.
Same thing for MKX.
All the characters even got their own separate endings in MK9.
Same thing for MKX.

Arcade ladder mode should be nothing more than what it has always been. A random string of fights leading up to a (usually) non canon character ending.

I agree, but i saw this subject once or twice here, i thought this could be elaborated more,so who don't like it could give ideas instead of just complaining.

Well, you can't elaborate on something that was designed to be "Straight forward" to begin with lol.

I don't think there's nothing you can add to ladder mode to improve it, if that's what you're asking. Besides, Ladder gets old after the first few months, Online is where the fun (Frustration) is at.

Choose your destiny was mainly intended for how many opponents you wanted to face on the ladder, as opposed to difficulty and who you preferred to fight. Which is why the Arcade Cabinets of MK 1-4 even had difficulty settings.

Derp.

I always thought it added more opponents and bumped up the difficulty.

My bad Kickinwing420 Forgive me

Ladder is so basic to the point where there's nothing to add that'll improve it.

Unless they give you handicap options like the Armless and Legless Kombat from MK9, but I doubt all of that nonsense will return.

Wasn't there a thing where you would do the whole ladder in one life bar?
Like endurance or something? I can't remember what it was called.
anyway, I bet that will come back.

I always thought it was an endurance round in each ladder? The Big "E" on each ladder, right? Lol. My memory is horrible too, so Idk.

Yeah, i guess there was two different endurance things.
The one i'm thinking of was in MK4. I had to play it really quick to remember.

I do want the other endurance round back tho. The one with two people.
Or maybe a Noob-Smoke type character.

Choose Your Destiny

I want Choose Your Destiny back! Or at least different type of ladders like in Injustice. I would definitely like a Full House mode where you can fight against the whole roster.

I absolutely hate mirror matches though. Ed said that it would be funny with the pre-match conversations but Cassie's just plain silly. I hope that at least the com will automatically come up with a different variation.
