Am I Using Too Many Characters?

I was wondering this since it is recommended that you main around five characters in MK9. However, I'm trying to main Mileena, Kitana, Jade, Ermac, Kabal, Kano, Nightwolf, and Reptile. Eight characters in total. And I'm seriously considering trying to main Cyrax. It's not really my fault either, I just feel attracted to so many of these characters. Will my skills suffer because of this? What can I do to mitigate this?

Im maining 8 too and i have no problem, and i will main more later. lol

The 6 ninjas + Cyrax and Kabal

I main that 8 but the ones I really main are Sub-Zero, Ermac, Reptile and Cyrax.

Nope .... if you can adapt well, mastering one character, trying the next one, and after training in Training Mode, knowing by heart all basic moves, custom combos and special moves, and next, trying advanced combos and testing your skill online with this character, so, you can try as much characters you want, inclusive, all 27 total .....

But, for some reasons, people decide to pick half dozen maximum, at least, to play serious them, while the others remaining characters, only for fun or when they feel bored playing with the same characters ( those 6 they have more dominion) ......

If you feel that is easy to learn a new character, do it. You should have no restrictions or limitations if you feel you have skill and interesting to master a character that , suddenly , catch your interesting and attention.

The thing is, that most characters have more combos than you really need to know to be good with them. You generally only need to know all of their special moves, and a few of their combos. That's why the GameFront MK character guides generally list around three combos that you need to hammer into your memory.

I wish I could do that lol. My problem is I'm not attracted to most chars. I can't stand to play kung, loukang, raiden, jax, any of the women. I tend to aim for 4. Still flip flopping on last 2 tho

I'm maining every playable character. it makes things more fun and diverse to use more than a couple characters, plus it makes you a lot better because you know the characters inside and out.

im pretty adept at kabal cyrax and sub zero and thats with casual play time, if you can master them all the more power to ya

i sometimes pick a character at random at the beginning of a match to have fun. kinda gets boring playing with the same characters over and over again ^^

Gaming terminology is so odd sometimes. If you use all the characters in a game you aren't really "maining" any of them since that term implies that you play one or more characters regularly over the others.

However, there's no problem with having at least a working knowledge of as many characters as possible. Scorpion's my main guy, and has been since MK 1. However, everyone wants to be Scorpion in MK9 and anyone picking him is assumed to be a spammer. As such, I decided to branch out and get a handle on others (as luck would have it, my MK 2 main was Mileena, so I'm 0 for 2 in picking people not marred by spammers). I'm still trying to come to terms with Stryker being good in this game since I hated him so bad prior to this game. I thought he was the stupidest character in MK3, and was easy to be cheap with. Now he's actually a well rounded character.

dont worry im maining 10 characters which would be skarlet, ermac, rain, noob, scorpion, kung lao, mileena, sub zero, kenshi, freddy krueger and sooner or later might learn cyrax. and its not that much of a problem for me

Being able to be competitive with many characters puts you at an advantage, so I don't think you could really "main" too many characters.

It can be a diadvantage in certain circumstances

Like Bruce Lee said: "I do not fear the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks. I truly fear the man who has practiced 1 kick 10,000 times."

This.
I'm starting to use NightWolf, and Shang Tsung more and hope to add them to my list of "MAINS."

Truly mastering Shang Tsung and knowing your opponent's character can be really advantageous.
Fight fire with fire, per se. ;-)

Depends on how you like to play too...

I dont give a shit about competitve gaming, I just play for fun so I dont care if I play 10 chars and I only play good with 1 or 2 and suck with the rest, I prefer that than the guys that play 1 character only just because they want to learn all the crap abut him to win everytime, **** that... that's boring and dumb.

Don't think about it that way, Mortal Kombat is competitive but it's still a video game, it's more fun to see how far you can get with each character. When you get to the legitimate fighters online, they'll thank you for the variety.

I've found it odd that I've only seen 1 or 2 people main Sheeva.
The 1 person who I fought online using Sheeva (I think it was Big Frog), was totally badass with her.

Mileena, Ermac, Nightwolf, Reptile, Skarlet, and Kabal, are pretty much my "safe-zone" characters. With these characters, I'll always know all their bread and butters, how to play as them, and their strengths and weaknesses.

I main...

Mileena
Shang Tsung
Ermac
Sub-Zero
Reptile
Johnny Cage
Scorpion
Kung Lao

Im working on jax and jade now. I can say sometimes I find myself doing Mileena combos when I Ermac lol but it's only for a brief second then I snapback
