The rules and rites of Mortal Kombat

Wait wait wait... So when Scorpion participates... Who is he fighting for? And didn't he switch over to Earthrealm in UMK3?
UMK3 is not a tournament; it's an invasion.

But then we'd have that problem about Bo' Rai Cho, who could not participate MK because his victory would count for Outworld. If anyone from any realm could participate and choose their "side", then it'd make no sense why Bo' Rai Cho could not participate.

Again, holes on the story. IMO, leave it like that, and let's wait for the start over of the story.
How is there holes in that?

Who said the trading cards are canon? And if it was, he is a descendant. And just like everyone is a descendant to someone, cause thats their ansertors(however you spell it).
Let me ask you: do you honestly believe MK3 and 4 were tournaments? Do you not trust me?

I was pretty sure that The Great Kung Lao was the great great great grandfather of Liu Kang and Kung Lao.....

This was never mentioned until MK4... I honestly think it was never intended for Liu Kang to be related to Kung Lao at all and was just thrown in randomly.

But that's besides the point.

I know for a fact MK3 and 4 were not tournaments. I really don't feel like digging up the facts to support this... so I pray the people who doubt me will just accept what I say on that :{ or someone else helps support me.

Mortal Kombat 3 is not a tournament. It's an Invasion of Shao Khan, who uses Sindel to cross over to earth realm annd outworld and earthrealm become fused. Mostly all humans die, except the ones raiden protects which are the main good fighting characters, and they battle shao kahns forces to save earthrealm.

They aren't. But they credited Liu Kang as if it a tournament. Thats why he is the, "Undisputed Champion", and won Mortal Kombat 4 times. And yes I do, but I just disagree with you.

EDIT: Correct me if I am wrong but, didn't Quan Chi say when they entered a Portal, "Welcome to Mortal Kombat", something like that? Like he was saying it like it was a tounament.

Wait, Shinnok was only invading Edenia in MK4? So why did Earthrealm give a shit?

Nah, first, he invaded Edenia then Liu Kang went one deep into Edenia to rescue Kitana but he failed so he went to Earthrealm and got some help. Then Shinnok invaded Earthrealm and then Liu Kang kicked his ass.

Or maybe he's undisputed because he won two tournaments.

I think I know what you're talking about, but since it makes absolutely no sense... I don't know. I would see it more as kind of a welcoming to the viewer to break the 4th wall. But in John Tobias' comic that preludes MK4, the people take a portal to Edenia and Quan Chi greets them with some phrase I don't remember. I think it involved calling them mortals or something.

In the same source I was referring to before... everyone already goes to Edenia; and Shinnok lays waste to Edenia and uses it as a beacon to invade the Heavens and the Elder Gods.

Yes, it is canon; but they say "immortality" when it does not make sense. It would make more sense if they said eternal youth. The title of champion also apparently gives you powers too until the next tournament.

not immortality but you don't age until the next tournoment, immortalty suggest that you can't be killed.

You are right but I think it's actually used as more of an allusion than a literal sense of immortality. They cannot die by aging but I think they're gifted with powers of the Elder Gods to further protect themselves from danger that would kill them before they have a chance to have their title challenged in Mortal Kombat.

They term "immortality" could be used in a limited sense that the Elder Gods would apply to it because they themselves are not immortal despite being the greatest authorities of the universe.

Quan Chi said, "Mortal Kombat like you've never seen before." He said it like it was a tournament cause it was one. And They invaded Earthrealm too.

And I don't remeber what part or where I read or heard someone said they made the tomb for winning the tournament four times. Something like that.

I forgot that this comic was not actually written or planned by John Tobias, which explains a lot. Even though it was a tie in, the things this game says make absolutely no sense and contradict the past stories. The comic contradicts the game even... because it was stated Shinnok planned to invade the Heavens from Edenia, but he invades Earthrealm..

It's unreliable.

I like the post, but what I'm more impressed with is the TS's name. How could it take until January of 2011 for someone to decide to use the name "mortalkombat"? Kudos to you on two counts.
