OK we have seen old man Shang Tsung on his thrown in the background and Hector Sanchez said that they wouldn't have redesigned him just for the background so what Shang Tsung do you want in the game?
I'd like to have both old Shang Tsung, with young playable Shang Tsung unlockable in story mode.
Once you unlock young Shang Tsung, whenever you use / play against him in the Throne Room, the throne should be empty.
It would be dumb to be fighting against Shang Tsung and have him sitting on the throne, at the same time.
sigh why do people want a non playable boss Shang Tsung, he's not intimidating anymore, his status in the series has been reduced to a regular character after Kahn was introduced, he's Kahn's flunky who's life has been epic fail after epic fail.
the whole appeal of "boss" shang tsung was his morphs, and we all know he won't be morphing into the entire cast in mk9, not with the technology and memory issues today, it would take to0 long to program that. So without said morphing ability, making the regular non morphing shang tsung we've come to know in recent years a boss character is ridiculous. I'm not hating , this is coming from a huge shang tsung fan ever since MK2 made him playble, even without the morphs he was still my fav in DA.
I feel i made a valid point. If you can find holes in my argument and convince me as to why he should be an unplayable boss in this version start posting. I'm listening.
I agree with you but even with out the morph if they have to leave it out and I don't see how they could put in the full morph they could still give he boss like characteristics. He could just have some of the the characters more powerful moves or maybe morph into the character that is facing or maybe just his heath could regain making him more difficult.
They have already modeled the old man Shang Tsung so I think he will be in the game and Hector pretty much said that he would be but I for one don't really want to play as old man Shang Tsung because he has never been playable. I guess it is just wishful think that he wouldn't be playable as the old man but I guess I could be open to the Shang Tsung sitting on the thrown as the playable Shang Tsung as long as the alternate costume is more like the MK2 or MK3 Shang Tsung.
LOL is it only me who preffered Mk2 version Shang Tsung overall?

Like I have said prior, I would like him as a sub boss as old Shang and playable as young and his entrance should be him coming in as old and morphing into young since the tech doesnt allow for morphs again yet.
I don't know what program language 360 and Sony use, but code wise, its just the equivalent of a Java case statement with #chars+1 cases (you have 1 "do nothing" case) that would call one of those character's objects in the code with a possible timing parameter. It would require every character to have said timing parameter in their constructor, but nothing that once figured out couldn't be easily replicated. They honestly could take the model they used for MK2/3 as a logic base and probably hash out the code in a couple of days. The only extra animation that would need to be accounted for would be the in between phase.
technology issues should virtually be a non-factor. I forget how many PS2's in parallel they said the cell processor for the PS3 was equivalent too, but it was a lot. You could claim the 360 as being near or at the PS3's processing capability.
Memory might pose a problem, but with most every game coming with a pre-download option (or forcing you), Shang's morph could be downloaded to the 360/PS3 to reduce any latency that it might pose.
Spatial issues also should be a non factor, with a fighting game like this not taking up anywhere near the capacity of a blu-ray (or they wouldn't be able to fit it on the 360 DVDs).
Sorry but I see none of your arguments above as being valid for Shang not being able to morph.
This.
I dont know why people would want just one :S, an added character would be a bonus.
I don't know much about how the video game actually works, can you explain why morphs can't work in MK9?
I find it funny that they don't have the ability to do this in the game now (seeing how much more advanced video games are). Especially when it was possible a decade ago. It seems like the games less technologically advanced.
EDIT: sort of answered a bit by Grune, as I was writing the post.
Yea I believe it has something to do with all the information (moves, model, etc.) would have to be loaded prior and that could / would make for a longer load time between fights and keep the active memory under control as well.
I dont know if that helps anymore or not... Maybe someone can expand upon it.
I'm not expert in this stuff, but I do know that the old cartdriges were much faster to load stuff. Do you remember any cartdrige game that had loading screens?
I think the main reason is because cds, dvds and hard drive discs have a mechanical piece to read the stuff. The piece that reads the data from the disc actually has to move to point the location of the data it's going to load, it's not electronic. This makes the loading process much slower.
yea your right, the size of the data was smaller and was readily avaliable off a cart where as with a cd / dvd / bluray the data is greater and it needs to be read first then made avaliable.
Installing the game on the hard drive of the PS3 or Xbox 360 could help with such issues and the load time but I doubt that it would be enough to make that much of a difference and people may not want to take up that much hard drive for it but I hope I'm wrong and it would make it possible to morph.
