Mortal Kombat 1 General Discussion Media Thread

I come here, to check about MK Legacy.

Why we can't have nice things... I actually was so happy about having SOMETHING good with MK. I really hope there is something worth in that collection, cause the price alone made me question the sanity of WB.
There's the Wavenet version of UMK3 which was a previously unplayed version of it.
The MK4 Arcade version
Mythologies is in the collection and now has a rewind function

Those are at least the top 3 things that stood out to me.
Still not going to pay full price for it, though, but maybe if it goes down to like $20. Dunno.

I am actually super excited for MK4. This was the very first MK game I owned all together and had made a ton of awesome memories, by having friends over and doing small tournaments on my old PC. Basically the only game that really interests me.

I would have been more excited for MK4 if it was MK GOLD.

This is the arcade version of MK4 with 4 less stages and 6 less characters, no secret Goro and no secret Noob Saibot than what the Dreamcast version would have had.
The only thing maaaaaaaaaaaybe kinda selling me on this arcade version of MK4 is the 4X up-scaling that they have done for it which doesn't appear to be half bad, but still not something I'd get at $50 or more.
$20 would be the sweet spot for me.

So they are charging 50 bucks and give inferior versions of the classic games. Like... you have to be talented to be this stupid. That's a genuine talent.

You're right. I checked MK4 version and yep. It is the basic version. Bro... Are these guys for real?

They completely stopped caring. Cannot even get a proper classic collection.

"BuT WHy aRe yOU alWAYs unHaPPy?" What else is one supposed to feel with shit like this constantly happening?

In fairness, MK4 is the only seemingly inferior one in the Kollection, imo. Even then, they managed be able to upscale it to 4X and the option to play as Meat. Maybe it's me and I'm just more of an MK GOLD snob.

While it's broken (Sektor), for me the superior version of MK4 is the MK GOLD "Red Disc" version 2.0 (which said on the package "Hot! New!) because (again despite broken Sektor) it did manage to fix the other game bugs from the vanilla MK4 and GOLD editions of the game.
It's a version of the game that I DO have, just not a Dreamcast to play it on.........and I'm not spending $150 - $350 (what a Dreamcast goes for these days) just to play 1 or 2 games on it (loved Crazy Taxi too).

Like Commander already said WB will look at the poor reception and go ''well I told you no one wants to play these old ass games anymore. Might as well cut our loses here!'' and just like that...There goes the 3d collection and MK9 out the window.

To be fair, I DO think that if ANY MK Kollection could sell well it'll be this one with mostly MK1 through UMK3 ports, but the publisher (WB) always likes to deflect and double down on stupid (look at Suicide Squad).
My point was moreso that IF it doesn't end up doing well it'll be because of them and NOT because of the fans.

For every 1 person like me that won't get this day 1 or would wait until it goes way down in price to spend $20 on it, there are hundreds more that will eat it up like hotcakes on day 1 and spend $50+ on it. The "sitting on the fence" / waiting around folks are in the minority as I've seen tons of people on IGN, social media and reddit hyping up this Kollection or being excited for it.......and the rest of the casuals who aren't hardcore following the social media or other gaming sites and just see this Kollection will also gobble it up. When it comes to MK1 through UMK3, the amount of blind nostalgia is baffling. Meanwhile, we have to fucking BEG Boon and others for them to throw us a bone with MK11 Fujin & Frost (even if it's not the preferred version) and then FINALLY Reiko, Havik, Nitara, Ashrah and Li Mei in MK1.

I just think that since WB likes to deflect and blame others, that I could also see them doing that on the off-chance that by some miracle this doesn't sell well.

Maybe back in 2013 most people would let this kind of thing fly. Unfortunately for WB it's 2025 and if the goal is to make money than missing key online features that every other modern fighting game has like crossplay, ranked and lobbys is basically sending your game to die. Even if you don't care about the online. Many people do. They can't just pull a MK arcade Kollection all over again throw in a couple extra roms and expect people to pay 50 for it. IMO They should delay it until next year otherwise, it will be dead after the first week of sales. MK1 got slamed at launch for this so for WB to do this again would be next level stupid. Yes I get casuals who never research anything past Ign will buy it in droves but after that first week, they will move on to whatever the next thing is. That's to be expected but a fighting games life blood is the online experience and if that shits the bed than no one will come back to play your game.

Yes, WB will absolutely do that.
Remember, this is the same publisher that after the complete and utter failure of Suicide Squad had doubled down on stupidity and was like (paraphrasing) "we're going to do more of that stupid shit."
They absolutely can and will throw in a few extra roms and expect people to pay $50 for it.
They're not the brightest crayons in the box, so don't give them credit for being any smarter. They're not!
They are 100% banking on the nostalgia of the kollection and trying to see what sticks to the wall, especially since WB is up for sale.......YET again!

They don't seem to give a shit since they're looking to get acquired.
It's the CEO mentality of "this shit will be someone else's problem when they buy it."
I don't know why people (in general) act like these publishers give a shit about anyone. THEY DON'T. The want to make their buck and get out, which is why the game industry -for the most part- has been shitty the last few years. It's suits making all of the decisions, and thus why creativity has gone out the fucking window. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think suicide squad was all DEI funded anyway so it didn't really matter if it bombed or not. Nowadays that well is drying up which explains why the CEOs of WB are abandoning ship. The problem is no one wants them. EA just sold off all its assets to a Saudi Arabian company for 55 billion. If that doesn't set off alarm bells that something's up in the gaming industry than nothing will. My point is the tide is shifting wether thats a good or bad thing remains to be seen. I think the best case scenario is the WB gaming division is broken up and sold off to Someone like EA, Activision, or Saber Interactive ect,.

I think that Sega or MS (as much as I haven't been a fan of theirs for the last year or so) would be the best option. Though, that's not saying much, these days
I've seen people all over reddit saying that Sony should buy them, but the problem with that is that Sony likes to get licenses and make everything only on PS5 & PC, so they'd lose the people who play on Xbox or Switch if they did something like that.
At least if Microsoft or Sega buy them then they'll have a decent chance of remaining 3rd party down the road. I don't like any one company having a monopoly and the reason that I got a Series console along with a PS5 (later on) is because I didn't want to miss out on shit.
Hindsight is 20 / 20 and MS is going 3rd party anyways (by the looks of it), but games like MK, Street Fighter and Tekken which have been 3rd party (imo) should remain that way.

Again I just don't think Sony has the dough to absorb WB and make it profitable again IMO. They're a Japanese company at the end of the day and MK isn't near as popular in Asia as in the states. That's the same as if Nintendo decided to buy them but we both know that's not happening. I do agree that Microsoft or Epic games will be the ones with the funds as far as western publishers goes but again that doesn't mean they're willing or want to do it. What will most likely happen is WB will have to file for bankruptcy and that is when the other publishers gobble up all the remaining assets of the gaming division. Kinda like when Saber Interactive bought Tomb Raider and Deus Ex from Square Enix for Pennines on the dollar. Anything's possible though.

Ngl, that 4X upscaled version of MK4 looks awesome as fuck and pretty clean.
Honestly, didn't expect it to look that good with the 4X rendering.
Still not gonna spend $50 on the collection for it, though.
$25-$20 is the sweet spot where I'd justify it and be like "Yeah, I'll spend that for this clean version of MK4 plus the behind the lore videos."
The rest of them I can still play on my Genesis.

Yeah I still have the MK arcade kollection on my ps3 and trilogy on my ps1. The faster load times on trilogy are nice but not 50 bucks nice. The only thing I dont have anymore that interest me is MK4 but again 50? nah I'm good, I just bought Tormented souls 2 a brand new survival horror Resident Evil clone for $30. If MK Gold and the n64 version of trilogy was included for 40 I might have considered it. As it stands it's wait until next year for me.

I will wait for post launch. If there is more impressive stuff, then I will consider taking it. That render upscaling is mighty attractive, but not 50 bucks attractive. Not to mention ARC Raiders coming out at the same time and that one costs 40 bucks... soooo I have better options right now. Still if the price drops just a bit, then it is instant buy for me. Too much of nostalgia bitch I am after all. Also I would like to once again have FUN, when it comes to MK.

Sick and tired of just pile of shit coming from there. This potentially might be the first time I will have a fun time with MK since MKX (not counting me replaying 3D Era games and MK9)
