The article claims the game was updated with 3D models for this platform, so it's likely many changes have been made to this port like the recent J2EE port to make the game a better fit for the platform. The game will have only 11 playable fighters, down from the original roster of 22. But it's likely that the two bosses (Goro? and Shao Kahn) may be unlockable as they are on the J2EE version. On that note they actually added a whole new mode to the game called Shao Karnage that we're itching to check out. The game will also feature local multiplayer over WiFi.
We expect to get our hands on it and a review out the door as soon as the game is available, along with our yet unpublished J2EE review. Until then, here is their video to get an idea of how the game looks.
Update 4:30pm: Thanks to this forum thread over at TouchArcade we got a few screenshots of the game. Not in love with this 3D remake of the game, I would have preferred a scaled up 2D pixels instead of this effort. The earlier Java J2ME port ends up looking far better because of that. Click the thumbnails for a full sized screenshots.
Update 12/15 9pm CST: The port should be available tomorrow Thursday December 16th, 2010according to GameplayBook for $6.99 USD. Sounds like it may be iPad native as well, which is good news for owners of many devices. Start checking your AppStore starting at midnight in your timezone for it to show up! Stay tuned for our review coming soon!
I think this looks AMAZING compared to that Java shit. I don't see how the controls work without6 buttons, plus on-screen controls for such a game sucks even then.
I think this will be the HD MK Collector. the 3 classic games remaked with 3d graphics and will be in the PS Network Store or in the XBox Online Store or a combine of the 3 games in 1 disc, not only in Iphone. Characters looks like the old ones but the stages looks pretty bad. I hope they don't forgot again the PC fans and release it on PC too. Guys, this is the base of the MK HD Kollection.
why are you so sure Tim? or there is not exist or will be stg like the iphone version in better resolution.
Will be very cool if you share your opinion.

I dont have an opinion. I just 'know' certain things to be true, and whats not true.

I thought that too, based on the original footage which made it look like the character models were actually digitized sprites different from the ones we've seen for the past 15 years. After seeing these awful 3D models though, I'm sure that's not the case. Remember that the HD Kollection is supposed to use real actors like the original, not Dreamcast quality (if that) polygonal models.
