A thread I found about what Japan thinks of MK and Western games in general. Are they really that prejudiced against western developed games?

It makes me kinda glad I've played out all their game series' (Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Tekken, etc.). If they don't like our games we shouldn't be playing theirs so much either. Besides, when was the last time they came out with any half way original game design/formula that would demand so many Western gamers' attention? First they don't like our cars, now our games, lol. I guess you can't force favorites on people but it's hard to understand how Japanese games are still so popular over here. Their ideas seem so played out. Look at how much MK has evolved as a series from the first to Armageddon, for example. Then look at the Tekken series... :hmmmm: Do the math.

I dont think that asians for the most part ever really got into any MK games as much as the westerners, dude. Back when MK3 was in the arcades here, the asians would stick 99% to their Tekken, KOF and SF games rather than play MK. Perhaps the game is taboo in their culture for soem unbeknownst reason.

You could say that I wheened on mostly JAPANESE games, dude. I have all of that you stated above and alot more. Infact, despite my inablility to read the language, I still play their version of alot of fighing games. For example, the Tekken series and the Streetfighter series. I prefer teh 17% approx speed increase in play. It's funny, when I first played Tekken 2 [ntscj] version, it was fast. But I couldn't read or understand the story endings etc. So upon playing the PAL reigon versions I was both shocked and happy that I could read whatw as going on. Why was I shocked? Mostly due to the severe slowdown of the PAL version and the adding of unnecessary top and bottom borders. While I may love my DVDS in widescreen, I abore borders in my games.

But to answer your original query. I think that they are a bit prejudice. But I am not towards their games. Look at the FF series, it is amazing! Japan have created some of the most memorable and awe-inspiring gaming franchises ever. MGS is another series that is the epitome of sheer brilliance.

Anyone know why ChiefThunder is listed as "banned user"?

Anyways yeah Japan has created some of the best games, and like I said before you can't force them to like what the west offers. However I do enjoy MK more than any other fighting game series. It just feels more solid, and interesting. These days I consider western games to be more appealing than the Japanese stock.
Ninja Gaiden Black, however, is the latest Japanese game that I consider well worth playing.

Ninja Gaiden Black gets really, really irritating around level 5.

To tell you the truth, it wore thin on me after level 2! If my gaming genre preferences weren't so honed these days I'd enjoy it more, but it didn't hold my interest. Impressive game though.

I have talked to Japanese players because this has alway interested me, and it is no surprise that the most popular MK game there at any time was UMK3.
