The Beetle Lair

I hadn't really thought much about it until just recently, but, wasn't the Beetle Lair supposed to be a Death trap as well? I remember reading in PS2 magazine when it came out with its first look at Deception, and it said that if you smashed your opponent through the red pain glass on the first floor, thousands of beetles would eat them alive. I also unlocked some concept art bullshit in the krypt awhile back that showed someone getting chowed on by those nasty little bastards. Why doesn't it work? Did I miss something?

I noticed the same thing but haven't looked into it heavily as of yet. It's also mentioned and shown during someone's ending. I can't think of who right now, but the pictures and endings for each character are up in the MKD Character Guide now.

Thanks, Pat. I keep trying different things in the lair to try and initiate the bug attack, but I keep coming up empty. I can't imagine that this is some kind of hidden secret to do, because well, that just doesn't seem like that big of a deal, especially considering all the other traps work. Kind of a bummer; that was one I was really looking forward to.

bugs?

I'm pretty sure that it was initially going to be a death trap, but they removed it because of programming difficulties. If you read the text associated with the unlocked artwork, I think it pretty much says so. Since they had the idea, but technical limitations prevented them from doing it, they decided put it in someone's ending. Hence that is why you have the glass thing in the middle. I think they originally meant to implement the deathtrap when someone broke the glass.

But what about on that island when you get pushed into the water and the piranas eat you? Isn't that the same concept as the bugs, only replacing the piranas with the beettles?

The death trap was probably removed to lessen the amount of backgrounds with death traps in them, to influence brawling more. However, this one level is no where near the only thing kept out from this game, that was promised/being developed.

Sad, I wanted this one too.
