Should I get the headset when I go online?

I'm basically illiterate when it comes to online play; once I finally get hooked up, it will be the first online gaming experience I've had (fitting that it should be with my all time favorite series of games). How many of you guys are using the headset? Is it worth it? What do they run? How do they work? Is there any other method of communicaiton other than the headset (i.e., instant messaging, etc.)?

I've only been playing online since sunday, and i must say the headset brings a whole new aspect to the game. I use the headset as much as i can... even if the other player does not... this way you can taunt them cause they can still hear you through their TV... But the best is when you play someone and you say... "last breaker"! or "nice combo".

The headset is definatly worth it, as for pricing Gamestop offers them for $19.99 a shot. They plug in to your controller, like a memory card.

This is the only form of communicating, the messages you get are invites... nothing like chatting, but with the headset, you can send messages with the invites!

Hope this hels some... and see you online soon!

Thanks, man! I'll defintiely get one now. But, if you can hear the person through your TV, doesn't that distort or completely block out the sound of the game? Is the communication clear?

Erm, I don't have the headset, yet, but sometimes the voice of the other person is sometimes blocked out by the sounds of the game. Still, I would suggest you get them, if not for MKD, for other games that are on Xbox live. By the way, what's your gamertag, WAS?

As of yet I am not online, so I don't have one. I hope to be online by middle to end of next week (I get home from my business trip Saturady afternoon). But, once I am on, I plan to try and use my regular Whatashame tag. If I can't, which will suprise me, I'll use some variation of it so that people will recognize whom it is they keep losing to.

I don't have the headset but plan on getting it. The only thing is if you buy a subscription to xbox live then you can get 6 months and a headset for 30$ or you can buy a year with a game and the headset for 50$ or you can just buy the headphones for 20$.

So, for 6 months of online play and a headset it only costs 30$?!?

Hopefully ill be getting the headset and the X-box live all in one shot. A shame only a few will be playing on X-box. Fucking PS2 fanboys.

If you get the headset with a years subscription it's $69.99 plus it includes Mech Assult.
That's a sweet ass deal too.
I got a great deal... 2 months free with MKD, 12 months free with the Mountain Dew promotion that went on last summer. So i got 14 months for free... :D

I remember the Mountain thing, but back then I was still a Gamecube activist. Now, I use it to set my cocktails on.
