Ratings for the game?

When street fighter 4 was released it got an average of 93 ffrom metacritic and it was just balanced fighting with almost nothing else. (not being a mortal kombat fanboy but i think it was overrated), mortal kombat seems to have just fighting also, no variety such as mini games(i don't mean test your might, i mean chess, motor etc..) or konquest like previous games had, i think reviewers are going to say the game is fun but lacks variety and i have this feeling it will average about an 85/8.5 from reviewers, what do you think the average rating mortal kombat recieves?

this game gets 7 automatic points just for being mortal kombat, it will get 2 more points for gameplay and be 9/10

In all honesty I have to agree with Cpac. Not the reasoning but the score.
The absence of some kinda variation in the game is gonna drop it one point.
I've never been a fan of Street Fighter. I feel it's always lacked skill and depth.
Stuff that Mortal Kombat has.

I predict the ratings to be around 80-85%, but that doesn't mean that it isn't worthy of more. I don't trust reviewers as much as I used to.

I had to...

It was just too easy...

street fighter is dope and requires mad skill and strategy.... dont be such a fanboy

i pray to Raiden that there is chess kombat

it all comes down to gameplay, if that is on point..... has to be 9 or better

"it was just balanced fighting with almost nothing else"

lol.... i haven't got the energy to comment on your reasoning.....

i predict for MK ..80% 8/10's

graphics=8
Gameplay=7
Presentation=7
Content=8
Online=8
Story?=7

It will get above an 8.5 for many reasons.

It is the best game since MK:DA. (MK v Dc sucked, but we haven't felt the MK feeling from the 3-D games)
Gameplay - 9
Story - 8
Online - 7.5
Graphics - 9
Variety - 8.5(Test Your.....)
Extras - 8 (Konquest, Krypt, Koins)

I would WANT 9/10s but i PREDICT 8/10s, why, because nowadays there are HARDLY any fighting game fans, most people who call themselves "gamers" have a game library that consists of every cod and halo game and a madden here and there :P

I don't take much stock in video game ratings. They are arbitrary numbers that don't measure anything objective.

Plus, you never really know who is writing these things. One may be by a person who absolutely hates fighting games so there's obvious bias.

So far it's showed to be the most beautifully executed 2D fighter to date. Others have tried to do what MK has achieved here. Let us not forget that it is still a very very big deal.

Gameplay: 10
If all the hype about the balancing is correct, it doesn't matter if there isn't VARIETY in a fighting game.... It's a fighting game for ****'s sake. If Street Fighter achieved a 9/10 from just being a clear flat out multiplayer game and Arcade mode. This gameplay matches that this time around(or dare I say, bests that? possibly)

Presentation: 10
With the inclusion of x-ray moves and the beautiful showcase of the fighters looking weathered throughout the battle, this is easily one of the most presentable games to come out in years. Throw in fatalities to that mix, and you just have a 60$ disk full of eye candy. The dark theme is constant all through the game, and it is as gritty as God of War could ever be.

Content: 10
Arcade Mode, Story Mode, Versus Mode, Online Mode, The Krypt, and Tutorial Mode are the mods we know so far. This is already alot more than SF4. Also, with the large cast of characters and the ability to collect Koins to unlock fatalities and other goodies, this is shaping up to be a beast of a game content wise. Lets not forget that they mentioned a 15 hour story mode that's no nonsense and doesn't distract from the main gameplay. NRS has also stated that DLC is going to be a big part of the game so the content (especially in the Krypt methinks) will be by the bucket load.

Online: 10
The MK staff have practically revolutionized the online fighter already by implementing the ability to balance the game on a whim with a quick update. No patches needed like Street Fighter or like the popular shooter Call of Duty. They say that their focus is online this time around and they've been showing that they're not just blowing smoke up our ass. With a new Spectator Tournament Mode online and a robust ranking match system, it could possibly be the standard in fighting games like they say when it is released.

Story: 8?
The only iffy one. We know the story is good already guys... but we can't predict if the voice acting will be like the disaster 3D MK ending cutscenes we've had in the past. With 15 hours of gameplay though, and from what I've seen when it comes to characters interacting with each other so far, I'm willing to bet it'll be at least an 8.

OverallL: 9.5-10
Take it or leave it. Just mark my words. If Steet Fighter 4 was capable of a 9, even with its just mediocre MEDIA popularity. I think MK is going to becoming something epic.

PS: to the OP... SF4 not having any depth? That is ridiculous dude. You really want street fighter racing in or something? That blows my mind, no lie.

I really thought when people said "depth" about a game they meant a story.
Guess every body on this forum disagrees or some shit.
Oh well.

Oh well.

Depth in regards to fighting games is always talking about how deep the gameplay is. Mortal Kombat has actually had very very very little depth from MK4 up until today. That's why its craziness to hear someone say MK has ever had more depth than SF(until today).

and btw wow, the word shit isn't censored! I would of said shit all throughout that post lol

I think this will get a great review, the amount of coverage and advertisement being done on magazines and websites has been more than ever before. Whether you guys like it or not, that adds to the positive reviews.

i mean that no matter what mode you choose, you will always be in fights, the krypt does add some variety but otherwise it's fighting all the time, which i personally don't have a problem with but i know reviewers will.

The NRS team has learned their lesson with extra unneeded gameplay. Every single time they make a mode that isn't about the fighting it actually makes the game look alot worse. Street Fighter 4 barely had modes at all and it got a 9/10. Reviewers aren't going to mind if all you do in a fighting game is fight. It's like saying Grand Turismo is boring because all you do is race(and that also got an amazing rating).

Tekken 6's free roaming/annoying story mode, all of MKs silly modes over the years, it all detracts from the overall game if you spend more than 2 minutes to stop fighting to free roam around some cheesy palace collecting coins(please please please don't have that in MK9).
