Is there a way to do a random select at the fighter selection screen? I looked in the manual and it said to select the "?" box but there isn't one of those.

go to scorpion for player 1, or sektor for player 2 and press up+start.

The random selection is always done from the box you start off in. Press up-start when at e screen. This is the same for all Mortal Kombat games, new and old.
