Official TRMK Difficulty Ratings

REPTILE 0009

New member
So I've recently bought MK Deception a few weeks ago, and I've noticed how all the characters have a rating from 1 to 5, that shows the difficulty in using and mastering them. So I've thought it might be a good idea to put together something like it for MK9.

1. The obvious characters (Scorpion, Ermac, and Smoke), will not be put up for voting.

2. I'll put three characters up for voting at a time.

3. You, my fellow TRMK members, will vote on a scale of 1-5 on how difficult the character's are to pick up and play competitively, and master. Also, it will help to provide details on your vote.

4. The voting will last for two days. After that, I will average the scores up and provide the overall rating up on on this post. I'll also provide details on why the characters are given their rating, based on the information I've gathered from you guys. Eventually, all the characters will have a rating.

Alright, the first three characters for voting will be Kabal, Nightwolf, and Kano.

Kano: 3.25
-Spammable special moves
-Difficult to execute juggles
-Lots of basic combos to remember

Kabal: 4
-High execution character
-His strengths lie in the more technical aspects of him
-Has few basic combos and special moves to remember

Nightwolf: 4
-Well rounded character
-Difficult to execute juggles

Kabal: 4
-Most of his strengths lie in the more technical, minute aspects of him (his block-strings, Nomad Dash cancels, block resets etc.)
-Few basic combos to remember
-High execution juggles, with rather underwelming damage
-Main corner combo consists of repeating the same Back+1, 2, 1 combo

Kano: 4
-Very spammable Knife Throw and Up Ball
-Lots of basic combos you need to remember
-Juggles require expert timing to pull off

Nightwolf: ?
-As of right now, I can't really give an accurate rating on him

Scorpion is a great character.
He's just overrated so everyone hates him.

I've had my ass WHOOPED by a Scorpion player.
He even taught me some neat tricks.

So I definitely wouldn't give Scorpion, Ermac or Smoke a 1.
Don't hate the game, hate the players.

Anyway,

Kano - 3
Kabal - 5
Nightwolf - 5

Night wolf - 5 (very good character but doesn't have a whole lotta lows.)
Kabal - 3( all you really nedd to know is his two string and his instant fire ball.)
Kano - 3(need to know how to zone )

Jade-4 Very good mixups and tools. Has options when using the meter for her specials.

Sheeva-5 Almost good with damage, although somewhat slow. Her 2, 1, 2 can lead to many options, plus has the most unblockable specials of all the fighters available.

Liu Kang-2 Have very easy and simple combos and specials that all can master easily. Just watch on the timing when using the Parry.

And Reptile 0009, I give Scorpion 2 and Ermac a possible 3-4, difficulty-wise.

kano 4-when you actually have to learn him he can be difficult, specially his low hit string starter into juggles some reason it feels like it has such tight timing required.

reptile 3-could be a 4 if you want to consider njp timing on one of his bnb's but the rest isnt as hard by comparison.

csz-3 he only has one real bnb combo which only works on the ground, his mixup strings dont combo into much so you need to play smart.

noob 2-the difficulty here is more subtle requiring you less to remember juggle inputs (outside the corner) but more to distance of your combo strings and how to effectively zone rather then just spamming. its definitly a char that rewards good reads, but the moves itself are not that hard to learn.

Sub-Zero 4
-Pretty difficult to master if you dont have patience
-You have to deal with the slower speed (though I have no prob with it)
-Need to learn how to use his projectile, in combos, not projectile exchange (Iceball)
-Need to learn the real use of the Ice Clone (not hiding and wait, shame on you if you do that)

I want to say that if you are not a real fan of SZ, you will probably never master him.

Alright, votes for Nightwolf, Kabal, and Kano are closed. The next three characters up for voting are Sonya, Jax, and Stryker.

sonya 2
jax 5
stryker 4

I agree with Jax and Stryker's ratings but I have to disagree on Sonya. Her BnB combos are more difficult to pull off than other characters, and her quirky negative edge issues makes her even more difficult to learn. I'm not saying she's not a solid character, but I think she requires a lot more effort to get proficient than say Raiden or Scorpion. I spent a good amount of time trying to get at least decent with her and had trouble pulling off a lot of her higher damage combos in a real match. Whereas after practicing with Raiden for only a couple hours I was able to pull off 30+ % combos with relative ease.

Sonya- 4. She has no teleport. Her only means of gaining ground is arc kick or drop kick, which is very punishable on block. Some of her combos are a little hard to use and her juggles aren't great.

Jax- 5. He just doesn't have a whole lot to work with.

Stryker- 3. Although he doesn't have all that great of a movelist, his specials make up for it.

Kabal is more difficult than Nightwolf to master? Yeah right LOL

from the time ive spent with them freaking kabals instant air fireball is harder then most of nightwolfs movelist :P that and his dash cancels. yes i can definitly say its my opinion that kabal is harder.

Seriously? Kabal's dash offers him at least a free combo possibility, Nightwolf has to suffer to catch the opponent. Kabal's fireballs and ground saw offer him easy zoning, while Nightwolf has a slow arrow and a slow lightning which are very easy to avoid. Hell, even Nightwolf's shoulder is easy to punish unlike Kabal's dash which has a fast recovery time. Even in terms of low combos, Nightwolf has one and only one. I highly doubt you spend much time with Nightwolf to be honest and from what you've been writing about him, I can easily tell it.

im not interested in arguing, that is why i clearly gave my opinion. but ill give my opinion as a response as well.

his fireball is only good if you do the instant air version which is difficult to time. his nomad dash cancels are high risk as if you dont cancel correctly you eat a full combo, so its a high learning curve there. nightwolfs arrows are actually quite fast i thought, maybe not as fast as spit (reptile) or knives (kano) but still damn fast.

kabals dash is also easy to punish i felt /shrug, not saying nightwolfs shoulder dash isnt either. his lightning is indeed not that great, and nightwolf isnt really a zoner where kabal can be so its a unfair argumen tand actually works agaisnt you since it means kabal has a more viable secondary aspect to his gameplay (ie not just rushdown) which means more time to learn required.

you got me on only one low combo tho.

your too defensive imo, and i dont think youve played with kabal much either, you talk like his instant air fireballs and dash cancels are easy, which they are in fact not. suffice to say i still think kabal is harder to learn then nightwolf.

nice debating with you tho :)
