Mortal Kombat Side Scroller

I'm playing Shank these days (a great game), and I couldn't help but imaging a Co-Op MK game in the same vein.
For folks who are not familiar with the game, here are a few screenshots:

I'm just around the fourteenth part in Shank, where the rockets are coming from the sky. Great game, really underrated. However, I think these types of games are best left to the random games with no history. This in a Mortal Kombat light would be terrible and only butcher the already paradoxical storyline.

That'd be cool. I really wish they'd do that Fire & Ice game that was supposed to happen in the same vein as the awesome Shaolin Monks. Should I give up hope on that ever happening?
