I need help from any1 knowledgable with computers/online play

Ok so im trying to play MOrtal Kombat 2 over the MAME(arcade emulator) on my computer over a network. For som reason on my side I am lagging. The opponent is not and I can tell they arent because they are quicker in their reactions(i am extremely good at the game, but the game responds slower to my actions, like my chain combos, uppercuts, ect).

The ping is liek 30something

my internet stats for speed on a free online test are...

1.5 megabits per second

Communications 1.5 megabits per second
Storage 177.4 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 5.8 seconds
Subjective rating Good

My computer properties say...

windows xp
Compaq
Presario
2.2Ghz, 448MB of RAM

I have 81gigs used and 68 gigs free of space.

Anyone see anything as to why my computer is being all slow? IS there anything else i should check to see why? do i need an upgrade? input appreciated
 
Ping is good, could be the connection speed? I have asked Zen for you, man. He may be able to offer you assistance. He's right into emulation with MK.
 
the sooner the better! its making me sick watching my ass get handed to me because my side lags and my uppercuts, roundhouses dont respond quickly, thus leaving me open, and my chain combos being horrific cuz of speed issues

ok. first up the computer stats sound ok. you could do with more ram. how does mk run when you're playing by yourself? basically he's only saying he has slowdown probs while online and then referencing to his computer hardware. so its better to know if the game runs fine all the time and then take it from there. if he says it does then ask him if its on a LAN network or you're actually playing over the internetif it is over the internet it could be he's connecting to someone slower. oh btw also ask if he's running a whole lot of programs in the background?
 
ok - it runs faster when im playing by myself. however, sometimes every now and then it will get choppy or slowdown. when i play on the internet tho(not LAN, using MAME32 Kaillera servers over intenet), its consistently slower the entire time. I am not running anything else in the background, programs, nothing.

I did check one thing, and its the fact when i do a system performance check, my CPU usage is at 100% a lot, for no reasons but just clicking the mouse rapidly or toggling between windows. HEres a screen shot of my system apps. ALSO - my wireless internet says - Speed - 36.0mps - "good" in the lower desktop icon

Nice screens, but I can't help you any further and my buddy is not online at the moment. If you can wait awhile. He will be back. I am sure he can help you and sort all this mess out, man.
 
All those applications should not be running when you are playing on MAME. That will cause you to lag because too many applications are running at once. You don't have that much RAM, so you shouldn't be running all those programs.

Go to the Processes tab then click Mem Usage and sort everything by that. Close all the unneeded applications that take up a shitload of memory like MSN, AIM, Yahoo, etc etc. The only files I don't advice you to close are files that are labeled SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, or NETWORK SERVICE. Everything else you should close to free up your processor. Then start MAME again when your CPU usage is at most 20% to ensure you don't lag.
 
i also just quit out of most system user apps(i noticed a lot was mcafee, micorosft antispyware, and other shit that was runnign apparently but i could not find on my toolbar anywhere indicating it was on). So my mk2 and system was fast as f***. As soon as i played internet on kailerra, bam, slow again (of course, not for the other user). heres my cpu usage screenshot as it was low...only 2% while i was doing whatever on my PCU, then as soon as i run MAME, it shoots up like a dog

You might need more RAM then. Check the requirements for MAME. I never used it, so I don't know the requirements for it.
