Having Problems with some Combos (Wii U version)

Alright, so playing both the tutorial and star labs, I'm getting very frustrated. I can't seem to complete some combos. As in, in some cases, just hitting three buttons without even using the directional stick.

For example, STAR lab's very first superman training mission. You have a combo you are supposed to do: y, y, x. Thats it. no directionals, nothing, just hit y, y, then x

Can't do it. I tried for a half hour, it wouldn't execute the combo. I tried hitting it fast, slow, medium speed, watching the animations and trying to time it, and I'm just not getting it.

I even tried a second controller, just in case. Nothing.

I've had some issues with other combos, but they almost always seem to involve the B button. I could understand if I was, say, too slow, but when it just involves mashing buttons, and at some points i'm outpacing the animations, other times waiting for it, and I can't execute what seems like this basic combo....

meanwhile, other combos are doing just fine. I'm a bit clumsy with the directionals, using the stick or Dpad, and don't always get those right first time, but some of them just dont seem to want to work.

So what the heck is going on here? I can't even finish the first superman STAR labs mission if I can't get this to work. Anyone else having these issues, or is it just me?

Thanks in advance!

James

EDIT: Corrected some mistakes in the above

there must be some kind of mistake either u are hitting the air thats why its not working
or if ur connecting your hit and its not continuing then there is something wrong terribly wrong cuz u dont need timing or anything this isnt street fighter just pressing one button after another should easily do it .

Well, I was able to get some of the combos to work.

I had to either put multiple fingers on the buttons, or slide my finger across both buttons nearly simultaneously. Seems to me the controller shouldnt require THAT fast an entry, but I haven't played fighting games in a long time - is it normal to require THAT fast an entry to get a combo going?

Are you playing on the tablet or the pro controller? There is a problem with the tablet because of the streaming video bug (not the game). Stream the video on the tablet if you want but use the pro controller to get your timing right.

Note: Don't know if you know but the tablet is delayed vs using a monitor/tv.

I was using the tablet. Thanks for the suggetion, I'll try the controller.

Actually, I have the original Wii controllers, you know, the ones that you plug into the wii slender ones? Well, I'll try those and hope it works.

Hmm I haven't gotten my copy yet, but it sounds like you are just not used to the speed they want you to use inputting the button combos. Should be able to be done on the Tablet and Pro Controller just fine.

Ah, it looks like it was two problems maybe. The first is there IS a bit of lag with the tablet. The other is, and I suppose I should have realized this, I needed to be executing the entire sequence perhaps before even the first attack animation was really done. I'd kinda thought I had to sequence them WITH the animation.

Once I started plowing through the entire sequence immediately, even as the first attack animation was going on, bang! Well, wasn't able to get all of them perfectly, but it did help! I got them done more reliably, though not perfectly.

Thanks for the help!

I am stuck in tutorial.....I think the move was square, square, back, forward+triangle (it's to do Batman's batarang combo).

I fcking sat there forever last night doing it and it wont damn well do it.....my controller is a bit of an arsehole and does what it wants sometimes. It's a problem I have had for a long time (for example, the character will start walking in a direction and I have to wait a few seconds before I can even regain control again).

I did it fast....I did it slow...I tried everything and it just wont go through. It's pissing me off. There have been times where it seems I have done it but it wont take it and move on to the next set.
